摘要： In a continuous vertical ascending casting installation for iron pipes T, graphite elements 3 defining a molten metal feed chimney 28, a die and coaxial core arrangement 13, 14 and an expansion vessel 16 are mounted under a cover 2 of an electric furnace 1. In use these graphite elements are immersed in a bath of molten metal contained in the hearth area 7 of the furnace, to thus enable precise temperature regulation and control. The outer surface of the die 13 is surrounded by a water cooling jacket 18, and the level of molten iron in the hollow cavity 25 of the core 14 is varied by the expansion vessel 16, to provide even finer control of the temperature gradient within the annular casting space. The overall arrangement is thus similar to a double boiler.

The ladle pressure is maintained until the wire is fully dissolved, and then raised to fill the mold cavity with the inoculated liquid metal.

摘要： A thin strip of metal or alloy is subjected to rapid solidification as it is ejected under pressure in a molten state from a crucible onto a cold, continuous band moving at high speed beneath the crucible's opening, in order to form metal strips in the vitreous state. An atmosphere under reduced pressure surrounding the zone of impact of the molten metal on the band is provided by a partially evacuated housing having opposed narrow inlet and outlet openings through which the band passes. The band is cooled and precisely positioned, and its vibration is minimized, by ejecting fluid from openings in the bottom of the housing, over which the band passes in closely parallel fashion. A pressurized gas at low temperature, ejected through these openings in the direction of the band, creates a fluid cushion between the band and the bottom of the housing. Curved fluid-ejecting units acting analogously to pulleys may be provided to define the path of the continuous band and to form similar fluid cushions between the band and themselves. The metal may advantageously be brought out of the housing by the moving band into an atmosphere of higher pressure before its temperature reaches the temperature of vitrification of the metal.

摘要： A fusing furnace casting channel 13 is surrounded by an induction heating coil 17 embedded in a refractory lining 12. A graphite sleeve 20 having a refractory inner coating 16 defines the casting channel. The sleeve serves as a permanent, single turn secondary winding such that the channel may be preheated even when no molten metal is present in the channel, which would ordinarily act as the secondary winding or core. This enables the casting channel to be maintained at a high temperature between successive casting operations.
