    摘要: A reagent cartridge for reacting a soluble reagent with a fluid diluent is disclosed having a fluid inlet for accepting a diluent and fluid outlet for expelling a solution. The cartridge casing also has fluid manifolds adjacent to the inlet and the outlet for directing fluid in a radial direction from the inlet to the outlet. The casing further defines a receptacle for a soluble reagent. A volumetric compensation means for volumetrically compensating for dissolution of the reagent upon introduction of the diluent into the fluid inlet is provided. The volumetric compensation means can take the form of a resilient sponge material having a compressed volume and an expanded volume, wherein the expanded volume is up to at least 500% of the compressed volume. The volumetric compensation means can also take the form of resilient coil springs. In other embodiments, a fluid permeable pressure plate is positioned adjacent to a free end of the coil spring and the reagent is positioned against the pressure plate. A method for obtaining injectable quality intravenous solutions in the field using the reagent cartridge is also disclosed.

    摘要: A modular filter system is provided with one or more modules that can be interchangeable, depending upon the specific application or specific health or environmental issue presented. Disclosed combinations can include one or more of any of the following modules in any relative position to one another: (a) a microbiological contaminant mitigation module, preferably in the form of an inverted u-shaped hollow fiber filter module wherein the fibers have ends potted on the downstream side and that consists essentially of hydrophilic fibers for water filtration with a small amount of hydrophobic fibers for venting of entrapped air; (b) a first chemical mitigation module, preferably in the form of an adsorption module comprising carbon or the combination of carbon and a deionization resin; and (c) a second chemical mitigation module, preferably in the form of a deionization resin module. Modules including a carbon bed or a resin bed may be equipped with a pair of hydrophobic foam bed restraints that apply opposing axial pressure to the bed in all operating conditions.

    摘要: A microinjection system comprises a device for housing dried forms of medical reagents, such as vaccines, hormones, etc. in single doses. Within a single chamber, a dry reagent bed is provided adjacent a compression component that keeps the bed compacted. In operation, diluent flows through the chamber to carry the reagent out of the chamber in fluid form. In the illustrated embodiments, the fluid carrying reagent is directly delivered from the chamber via a needle. Integral or connectable diluent delivery devices are disclosed for providing an appropriate volume of diluent to the reagent chamber. Unstable formulations of drugs, for example, can be safely stored in dry form. When injection is needed, the drug can be delivered almost instantly in fluid form simply by releasing diluent through the chamber, where the reagent bed is dissolved or suspended while the remaining reagent is continually compacted. The resultant fluid contains a single dose of the reagent and is delivered directly to a patient, desirably without measurement of the fluid form.

    摘要: Several improvements are disclosed for a drug delivery pack with dry reagent in a housing, each of which can be employed independently or in conjunction with others of the improvements. A novel spring is provided with two spring columns extending in parallel between a spring top and a spring bottom. The spring is particularly designed for fitting within the housing and compacting a dry reagent bed. A plunger mechanism to ratchet housing portions between two positions. In one position, a compression component adjacent the reagent bed is relatively uncompressed, such that it does not “set” over time. When the user is about to use the drug delivery device, the plunger is slid to compress the compression component so that it exerts pressure on the reagent bed. A similar sliding mechanism can also divert a stream of diluent through the housing from a priming path, where diluent bypasses the reagent bed, to a functional path passing through and eroding the reagent bed. Additionally, a method is provided for lyophilizing a liquid form of reagent within the housing from which it is to be delivered, thereby avoiding separate lyophilization and separate loading of dry form of the reagent.
