摘要: An in-line drug delivery pack that connects in-line with an intravenous (IV) line and allows for the mixing of diluent with a drug reagent to be delivered to the patient. An internal drug bed bypass mechanism is tailored to apportion diluent flow between the bypass and the drug bed. The apportionment is selected to achieve a solution concentration suitable for IV administration as the dried reagent is dissolved. Thus, both dissolution and precisely tailored dilution are performed in the same simple device.

摘要: Several improvements are disclosed for a drug delivery pack with dry reagent in a housing, each of which can be employed independently or in conjunction with others of the improvements. A novel spring is provided with two spring columns extending in parallel between a spring top and a spring bottom. The spring is particularly designed for fitting within the housing and compacting a dry reagent bed. A plunger mechanism to ratchet housing portions between two positions. In one position, a compression component adjacent the reagent bed is relatively uncompressed, such that it does not “set” over time. When the user is about to use the drug delivery device, the plunger is slid to compress the compression component so that it exerts pressure on the reagent bed. A similar sliding mechanism can also divert a stream of diluent through the housing from a priming path, where diluent bypasses the reagent bed, to a functional path passing through and eroding the reagent bed. Additionally, a method is provided for lyophilizing a liquid form of reagent within the housing from which it is to be delivered, thereby avoiding separate lyophilization and separate loading of dry form of the reagent.

摘要: The invention provides an apparatus and method for storing and transporting peritoneal dialysate in dry or lyophilized form, and for forming a deliverable peritoneal dialysis solution therefrom. In one embodiment, a dry reagent bed, including reagents sufficient to produce a dialysis solution, is suspended in a diluent flow path through the apparatus housing. Continuous pressure on the reagent bed causes the bed to compact as it erodes when purified water is passed through the housing. The pressure ensures complete and even dissolution of the reagents. Through dry storage and simple dissolution, even in a home, the invention enables a wider variety of solution constituents, including reduced acid content and the use of bicarbonate as a stable buffer component. The latter is illustrated in a double-bed embodiment, where bicarbonate is stored separately from calcium or magnesium salts within a single housing.

摘要: A propellant stick kerfing apparatus includes a support frame, a conveyor mounted on the support frame and operable for conveying a succession of spaced propellant sticks along a path of travel with the sticks extending in transverse relation to the direction of travel, a drive arrangement mounted on the support frame and coupled to the conveyor for driving the conveyor to advance the succession of propellant sticks along the path of travel, and pairs of upper and lower blades mounted stationarily on the support frame and defining cutting edges for making transaxial kerfs in the propellant sticks from opposite upper and lower sides thereof as the succession of spaced sticks are advanced along the path of travel between the cutting edges. The upper and lower blades define the upper and lower cutting edges in an oppositely inclined orientation in which the upper and lower cutting edges converge forwardly toward one another, intersect the path of travel of the succession of sticks, and engage the sticks for making pairs of transaxial kerfs in the sticks as the succession of sticks are advanced along the path of travel between the cutting edges. Each pair of upper and lower blades is spaced from adjacent pairs in a direction transverse to the direction of travel and staggered in the direction of travel relative to adjacent pairs of blades.

摘要: The invention relates to novel heterocyclic trichloromethyl derivatives, particularly 2-trichloromethyl-substituted quinazoline, benzo[d]-[1,3]-oxazine and benzo[e]-[1,3]-oxazine derivatives, for example 1,2-dihydro-2-trichloromethylquinazolin-4-one. The compounds of the invention are at least as effective as prior art trichloromethyl derivatives, which reduce the production of methane during the rumen metabolism of ruminant animals, and increase the formation of propionate at the expense of acetate, and hence improve the animals' rate of growth and their efficiency of food utilization.

摘要: An I.V. infusion or blood collection apparatus comprises an I.V. infusion set (100) and a safety shield (200). The I.V. infusion set has a wing body (105) from which a pair of wings (140) extend outward there from and a grip (145) extending upward there from. One end of the wing body mounts a needle (120) or catheter and medical tubing (130) is connected to the opposite end. The wing body includes a bore so that fluid flows between the needle and the medical tubing. A safety shield has a top, a bottom and opposing side walls and defines a cavity (227) that is adapted to receive the I.V. infusion set. The safety shield has slots (250) in each of the side walls and a slot (255) in the top. The respective wings and grip are adapted to be positioned in the slots and to slidably move therein. The slot in the top includes a lock that is adapted to receive the grip so that when the needle is retracted into the cavity; the grip is permanently captured therein, thus locking the needle in the fully retracted safety position.
