摘要: Carbon-based composite materials are provided, such as those comprising at least 80 weight % of graphitic carbon comprising functional groups capable of forming hydrogen bonds, the graphitic carbon in the form of a mat of randomly entangled elongated structures; not more than 20 weight % of a polymer or a nanofiber thereof, dispersed within the graphitic carbon, the polymer or the nanofiber thereof comprising corresponding functional groups capable of forming hydrogen bonds with the functional groups of the graphitic carbon; and a plurality of hydrogen bonds at an interface formed between the graphitic carbon and the polymer or the nanofiber thereof, the plurality of hydrogen bonds formed between the functional groups of the graphitic carbon and the corresponding functional groups of the polymer or the nanofiber thereof.

摘要: Disclosed are formulations for providing a therapeutic bioactive polypeptide to injured tissue. 摘要: Alkylphosphocholine analogs incorporating a chelating moiety that is chelated to gadolinium are disclosed herein. The alkylphophocholine analogs are compounds having the formula: or a salt therof. R1 includes a chelating agent that is chelated to a gadolinium atom; a is 0 or 1; n is an integer from 12 to 30; m is 0 or 1; Y is —H, —OH, —COOH, —COOX, —OCOX, or —OX, wherein X is an alkyl or an arylalkyl; R2 is —N+H3, —N+H2Z, —N+HZ2, or —N+Z3, wherein each Z is independently an alkyl or an aroalkyl; and b is 1 or 2. The compounds can be used to detect solid tumors or to treat solid tumors. In detection/imaging applications, the gadolinium emits signals that are detectable using magnetic resonance imaging. In therapeutic treatment, the gadolinium emits tumor-targeting charged particles when exposed to epithermal neutrons.

摘要: Systems for monitoring metabolites may include a sample collection system and a urinalysis system of or for a toilet. The sample collection system may be automated to collect sample urine from a toilet or toilet area, transport the sample to the urinalysis system, and/or the sample urine for analysis at a later time or after analysis by the urinalysis system. The urinalysis system may be automated by proactively providing test material on which a subject may provide a urine sample. Once the urine sample has been provided the urinalysis system may provide the test material to an analyzer for analysis. Results of the analysis of the test material and sample urine may be provided to a mobile device of the subject and/or a remote server. The urinalysis system may provide a urine sample to a mass spectrometry unit for analysis.

摘要: Compounds that regulate quorum sensing in Staphylococcal bacteria and in particular in Staphylococcus aureus are provided. Compounds provided are racemic, non-racemic or substantially enantiomerically pure cyclic peptides of formula I: or salts or solvates thereof, where variables R, W, X1, X2, and Z and are as described in the specification and L1 is a divalent linker which contains 1-12 carbon atoms, optionally 1-4 oxygen atoms, optionally one or two carbon-carbon double bonds, and hydrogen atoms to satisfy valency. Certain dimers of the cyclic peptides are also provided. One or more cylic peptides or dimers thereof herein can be employed to inhibit QS and to thus inhibit virulence in Staphylococcus bacteria. Compounds herein and pharmaceutical compositions containing one or more of these compounds are useful in treating infections of Staphylococcus bacteria. Methods for treating such bacterial infections are also provided.

摘要: The present technology provides a system for monitoring quorum-sensing in bacteria comprising bacteria that release at least one membrane-lytic toxin when the bacteria are at a quorum-sensing density; synthetic lipid vesicles comprising an environmentally sensitive indicator, wherein the synthetic lipid vesicles release the environmentally sensitive dye in the presence of an effective amount of the membrane-lytic toxins; and a growth medium; wherein the bacteria and synthetic lipid vesicles are in contact with the growth medium. Methods using the system and compounds discovered with the system (e.g., compounds of Formulas I and II) are also disclosed.
