摘要: Sensory information can be delivered to a subject mammal, for example, for restoring a sense of cutaneous touch and limb motion to the subject mammal. A biomimetic electrical signal is generated based on (a) a stimulation reference signal applied to a somatosensory region of a nervous system of a reference mammal, (b) a stimulated-response signal acquired from a sensory cortex of the reference mammal in response to application of the stimulation reference signal to the thalamic nucleus, and (c) a natural-response signal acquired from the sensory cortex in response to peripheral touch stimuli and/or peripheral nerve stimulation of the reference mammal. The biomimetic electrical signal is applied to a somatosensory region of a nervous system of the subject mammal to induce an activation response, in a sensory cortex of the subject mammal.

摘要: A closed hydraulic system for transmitting a compressive force from a distal site of origin to a proximal site is disclosed. The system having a distal balloon located at the distal site, a distal transmission tube connected to the distal balloon, an exchanger connected to one end of the distal transmission tube, a proximal transmission tube connected to one end of the exchanger, and a proximal balloon connected to one end of the proximal transmission tube; the distal balloon, distal transmission tube, exchanger, proximal transmission tube and the proximal balloon, which is installed in a suitable confined space on a person and hydrostatically connected such that when the compressive force is applied to the distal balloon at the distal site, the compressive force is conveyed to the proximal balloon at the proximal site stimulating a proportional pressure sensation there in the user.

摘要: A prosthetic arm apparatus including a plurality of segments that provide a user of the prosthetic arm apparatus with substantially the same movement capability and function as a human arm. The segments are connectable to one another and connectable to a prosthetic support apparatus that may be adorned by the user. Some segments may provide movement about more than one axis using a single actuator. The prosthetic arm apparatus may include a user interface incorporated therein and may include one or more communication systems for communicating with external devices.The prosthetic limb includes at least one antenna in connection with the controller for transmitting and receiving signals. The at least one antenna including the housing of the prosthetic limb segment as a radiating element. The prosthetic limb further includes a user interface integrally formed in the housing. The user interface including a status indicator for displaying information and having a flexible protective cover disposed around a portion of the housing and covering the user interface, the flexible protective cover including a translucent portion over the status indicator.

摘要: An apparatus that allows a glove wearer or the wearer of a prosthetic limb to operate a device having a capacitive touchscreen is disclosed. The first embodiment of the disclosed invention is a conductive finger sock that can be applied to the tip or all of a digit of a non-conductive artificial limb. The second embodiment is an adhesive element having a conductive material such as conductive thread or a conductive sponge material. The adhesive element can be attached to a glove or to a prosthetic limb or may be used as an actual bandage. The third embodiment is directed to a factory integrated conductive tip that is part of a digit of a non-conductive artificial limb. The conductive element may be attached to the wearer's skin by a conductive line or may be used without the conductive line and thus may function in isolation.
