It is provided a monolithic reactive porous support with efficiency and performance better than a particulate support used in a batch method requiring a liquid-solid separation process or a filling column method requiring a high pressure for liquid supply. In a solution containing a starting material having a reactive site, a precursor of a monolithic porous gel formed of silica, a metal oxide, or an organic-inorganic hybrid composition is reacted. Accordingly, sol-gel transformation and phase separation are induced at the same time to form a gel of the composition having continuous pores with a diameter of 100 nm or greater.

A platinum catalyst composition having improved thermal stability, and all of the utilities of platinum catalyst compositions of the art, is provided by mixing certain organosiloxanes which contain aryl and alkenyl groups, such as 1,3-divinyl-1,3-diphenyldimethyldisiloxane, in a quantity of at least 2 moles, with a platinum complex having as a ligand an organosiloxane which contains alkyl and alkenyl groups, such as 1,3-divinyltetramethyldisiloxane (or a mixture of said platinum complex and said organosiloxane), in a quantity of 1 mole of platinum atoms. In a preferred embodiment the mixture is distilled in vacuo to remove part or all of the organosiloxane which contains alkyl and alkenyl groups, and most preferably to remove at least a portion of the complexed organosiloxane which contains alkyl and alkenyl groups.

A composition comprising a complex of a Cu(II) salt formed from copper or a copper salt, an organosilicon compound having at least one Si-bonded group which include 2 amino nitrogens which may enter into a heterocyclic ring structure with Cu and 2 to 5 carbon atoms linking the N atoms, and water in the presence of oxygen, is useful as a catalyst for oxidative coupling reactions of certain silicon compounds. Formed spherical polymeric complexes of metals of the 8th subgroup of the periodic system with ligands of an organosiloxane copolycondensate optionally cross-linked by means of cross-linking agents containing Si, Ti, Zr and/or Al (statistical, block-shaped or mixed). This copolycondensate consists of the units ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 -R.sup.4 =R.sup.5 -Si ##STR2## in which R.sup.5 =alkylene with C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 directly bound to P or N, cycloalkylene with C.sub.5 -C.sub.8 or ##STR3## The ratio between the number of moles of units (II) and the number of moles of bound metal atoms is 1:1 to 1.000 to 1 and the ratio between units (I) and (II) is preferably 10:90 to 95:5 mole %.The polymeric complex compounds are present macroscopically as spherical particles with a diameter of 0.01. to 3.0 mm, a BET surface of >0 to 1000 m.sup.2 /g, a specific pore volume of 0.01 to 6.5 ml/g, and a bulk density of 50 to 1000 g/l.Several methods of preparing the substance of the invention with special posttreatment stages and the use of the polymeric metal complexes as catalysts in organic chemistry are disclosed.
