摘要: A build unit for additively manufacturing three-dimensional objects may include an energy beam system, an irradiation chamber, an inertization system having a return manifold configured to evacuate a process gas from the irradiation chamber. The return manifold includes a plurality of return manifold bodies and return manifold inlet disposed at a bottom of the irradiation chamber. The plurality of return manifold bodies includes one or more return manifold pathways downstream of the return manifold inlet. The plurality of return manifold bodies also includes one or more recapture pathways positioned to receive the process gas into the one or more return manifold pathways that flows past the return manifold inlet.

摘要: A method of additive manufacture is disclosed. The method can include providing an enclosure surrounding a powder bed and having an atmosphere including helium gas. A high flux laser beam is directed at a defined two dimensional region of the powder bed. Powder is melted and fused within the defined two dimensional region, with less than 50% by weight of the powder particles being displaced into any defined two dimensional region that shares an edge or corner with the defined two dimensional region where powder melting and fusing occurs.

摘要: Implementations provide cold spray additive manufacturing (“CSAM”) with gas recovery in situ in an open environment without requiring part disassembly and removal to a repair facility. Recapturing and reusing gas in an open environment reduces costs, rendering CSAM more commercially viable and efficient, and avoids risk of new damage to parts from contemporary pre-existing CSAM processes. A gas recovery nozzle attaches to a supersonic nozzle and sends used gas to a gas recovery sub-system by capturing gas that is deflected on impact with the part during CSAM. Captured gas is stored for reuse. A flexible coupling controls distance from the gas recovery nozzle to a part substrate to prevent (1) nozzle clogging; (2) stationary shock wave interference with gas flow; and (3) gas flow misdirection. The gas recovery nozzle also suppresses disruptive supersonic sounds. Implementations enable capture for later reuse of supersonically-propelled gas during in-situ CSAM in open environments.

The gas supply line includes a first line section extending in a first extension direction and a maximum width that extends transverse to the first extension direction and parallel to the build area. A length of the first line section is at least half as large as the maximum value of the width. The first line section also includes a first subsection spaced from the gas inlet and including a first flow conditioning unit and a wall of the first line section. The first flow conditioning unit substantially aligns the gas stream in the first extension direction.

The passivation device includes an outlet region for receiving filter residue from the filter device, a fluid supply for supplying a fluid flow of a fluid, which can include a passivating agent, into the outlet region, a fluid discharge for discharging the fluid flow and the filter residue from the outlet region and an energy supply device for applying energy to the fluid flow and/or the filter residue. The passivation device is configured and/or controllable to effect a chemical reaction between the filter residue and the passivating agent at least partially in the entrained flow. Furthermore, the passivation device optionally includes a passivating agent supply for adding a passivating agent to the fluid flow.

摘要: An additive manufacturing machine (900) includes a plurality of subsystems, such as a condensate evacuation subsystem (940) for removing byproducts of the additive manufacturing products near a powder bed, a closed loop subsystem (960) for cleaning contaminants from sensitive machine components (964), and/or an electronics cooling subsystem (984) for cooling an electronics compartment (980). Each subsystem (940, 960, 984) may include a dedicated gas circulation loop (942, 966, 986) that is operably coupled to a gas circulation device (944, 968, 988) for urging a clean flow of gas (946, 962, 990) to each of the subsystems (940, 960, 984) to perform a particular function.
