    摘要: An improved guillotine cutter for a printer is disclosed. The guillotine cutter includes a guillotine blade having a cutting motion that helps to urge the cut media from the exit chute of the frame. This reduces the likelihood of the cut media becoming pulled into the frame of the cutter, requiring that the user fish the cut media out. The guillotine cutter further provides a frame having integrated bearing surfaces for supporting many of the movable components of the cutter. This minimizes the complexity of the assembly of the cutter, reducing the number of parts (by elimination of separate bearings and other such additional components) and time required to assemble the cutter.

The device includes a plurality of linearly movable cutting elements capable of moving in the same direction as the web direction for cutting the web into signatures, and a plurality of gripper elements interacting with the cutting elements. A method for cutting a web includes the steps of linearly moving a plurality of cutting elements within a signature formation area, the web also moving within the signature formation area, the cutting elements and the web moving in the same direction; cutting the web with the plurality of cutting elements so as to form signatures; gripping the signatures; and varying a length of the signatures by varying a spacing between cutting elements in the signature formation area.

    摘要: A sheet cutting apparatus is provided for cutting sheets from one or more media supply rolls. A rotary cutter bar cooperates with a stationary bar to sever the media as it is fed between the two bars. The rotary cutter bar is driven by a motor whose output is monitored by a speed control circuit. During a cut cycle, the motor speed may decrease with an increasing load caused, for example, by a thicker weight media being cut. Uncorrected, the motor speed would decrease, causing a deviation in the straightness of the cut. The speed control circuit senses the changes from the normal speed of the motor during the cutting cycle and generates a feedback signal to the motor to raise the speed to the operation level.

    摘要: Auxiliary trim-out unit positionable at the discharge end of a web press and adapted to receive either single or multiple, laminate, pre-printed webs, either flat or longitudinally folded along one or both edges, and having one or more pairs of knives or blades adjustably positioned upon a rotary knife holder between the opposite ends thereof and supported thereby for shearing engagement with a stationary knife, the knives of each of said pairs of knives being parallel and spaced circumferentially to accomplish the dual function of (1) cutting individual printed pieces of said web into desired lengths and (2) trimming, from between adjacent pieces, strips of web material comprising excess lengths thereof required for the desired length of the cut pieces under circumstances where the cylinder repeat length of the press is different from the total length of a plurality of printed pieces within said repeat length. This arrangement also permits cutting off the printed image, thus permitting printed pieces to be bled when such is desired in the product. Means to remove the trimmed waste strips from the unit also are provided as an important adjunct to the trimming knife feature.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for high speed web processing incorporating linear tools with rotary motion to provide the advantages of linear and rotary type processing as herein disclosed. The web processing apparatus of the present invention includes a pair of linear processing tools, a plurality of sets of rotary gears, a drive shaft coupled to a first set of rotary gears, and a plurality of brackets connecting the linear processing tools to the remaining sets of rotary gears. The drive shaft of the present invention drives movement of the linear processing tools at the same rate that a web to be processed moves in between the linear processing tools. Accordingly, the linear processing tools engage one another at a flat angle at a fixed position of the web to process the web. The present invention also discloses a method for high speed web processing wherein a pair of linear processing tools are bracketed to a plurality of rotary gears such that the linear processing tools rotate with the rotary gears. A pair of linear processing tools are aligned such that the upper and lower linear processing tools engage at a flat angle when the lower linear tool is at its uppermost position and the upper linear tool is at its lowest position. A web of material is guided in between the upper and lower linear processing tools at the same rate at which the linear tools are rotated. In this manner, a web of material is processed when the upper and lower linear processing tools engage the web at a flat angle.
