    摘要: Methods of compression molding polymeric parts for improved impact resistance are provided. The components are particularly suitable for use in a vehicle or an automobile. The compression molded polymeric component comprises a central region or core comprising integrally formed foam, e.g., a foam core, that can sustain high impact load and does not lead to visible surface cracking or material cracking. The polymeric component may be a reinforced plastic composite (FRP). Such methods can produce lightweight, impact resistant, FRP components that may be used in various structural applications, including in automobiles.

    摘要: Biodegradable molded articles; a process for producing the same: and compositions for foam molding packed in a packaging film bag to be used in the production. A bowl-type container(10a), which is one of the biodegradable molded articles as described above, consists of a bowl body(11a) comprising starch as the main component and a coating film(12) having at least hydrophobic properties and comprising a biodegradable plastic as the main component which is bonded to the surface of the bowl body(11a). This bowl body(11a) is formed by steam-foaming molding a material to be molded which is in the form of a slurry or a dough containing starch and water. The coating film(12) is closely bonded to the surface of the bowl body(11a) either directly or via an adhesive layer. Compositions for foam molding packed in such packaging film bags can be easily stored and molded.

    摘要: Production of precision reflective mirror surfaces on low cost, lightweight molded plastic substrates (10). The process involves making a master pattern (12) having a precision machined contoured surface (13) corresponding to the precision mirror surface desired on the plastic substrate. A release layer (14) and a reflective layer (17) are applied to the master pattern and then transferred to the molded plastic substrate (10), with a curable replication layer (18) therebetween preferably comprising a filler-reinforced polymer composition which is compatible with the polymeric substrate and has a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) which closely matches the CTE of the substrate. The replication layer (20) is cured to replicate the precision of the surface (13) of the master pattern (12), which can be reused to produce a multiplicity of high precision molded plastic mirrors (21). In order to achieve improved accuracy and lower cost, the molded substrate tooling is adjusted (corrected) to account for differences in dimensions and/or surface contour. This more accurate substrate allows for a thinner replication layer which is less sensitive to error during curing and when the part is subjected to environmental conditions such as temperature variation. In the preferred case superior accuracy is achieved by the combined replication and correction process.
