A method for pre-forming a curved thermoplastic laminate to be incorporated in composed automotive windows, the method including the processing steps of; providing a thermoplastic laminate, clamping said thermoplastic laminate from opposite flat sides between a first and a second flexible clamping layer, applying a clamping force to the thermoplastic laminate, heating the clamped thermoplastic laminate, forming the clamped and heated thermoplastic laminate, and cooling the thermoplastic laminate. The invention also relates to a pre-formed thermoplastic laminate that is pre-formed by such method as well a system for pre-forming such a thermoplastic laminate.

A photovoltaic cell module is formed with the use of a cell press. The cell press has a longitudinal axis, two surfaces disposed opposite each other along the longitudinal axis, and a fluidic mechanism for moving at least one of the two surfaces towards the other of the two surfaces along the longitudinal axis. A method includes the step of disposing a substrate, photovoltaic cell, tie layer or precursor thereof, and superstrate between the two surfaces and spaced from one of the two surfaces. The method also includes the step of moving at least one of the two surfaces along the longitudinal axis towards the other of the two surfaces using the fluidic mechanism to compress the substrate, photovoltaic cell, tie layer or precursor thereof, and superstrate and form the photovoltaic cell module. The precursor has a viscosity of less than about 1,500 cPs measured at 25° C. before curing.
摘要:
The present invention provides a thin film photovoltaic module that has a protective substrate, such as glass, that has been contoured to define a space that overlies a bus bar on the thin film photovoltaic device. The contouring of the protective substrate greatly facilitates the deairing and lamination of the module because it reduces or eliminates the amount of trapped air and the degree to which the underlying polymeric material is forced to flow during lamination. Photovoltaic modules of the present invention can be processed with a minimum of waste caused by deairing and related lamination problems.
摘要:
The present invention is a laminate article comprising at least three layers of plasticized polyvinylbutyral (PVB) sheet, wherein at least one layer of the laminate is a stiff PVB sheet and at least two layers are soft PVB sheets. A laminate article of the present invention is useful for providing increased protection from damages occurring to automobiles, buildings, and windows by virtue of exposure of same to, for example, hurricane force winds, impact from debris propelled by high-force winds, or by intentional impact against windows comprising the laminates of the present invention.

A process for laminating multi-layer pre-forms into laminated glazing assemblies is provided. The pre-forms are first subjected to a vacuum in an inlet lock. Then, the pre-forms are heated to an assembly or bonding temperature in a heating chamber, while still being subjected to vacuum. Next, the pre-forms are pressed using pressing pieces in a pressing chamber, which is also subjected to vacuum. A greater pressure is exerted along the edges of the laminated glazing assemblies so as to bond the edges, preferably by using membranes. In an outlet lock which follows the pressing chamber, the laminated glazing assemblies are again vented to atmospheric pressure. An apparatus suitable for carrying out the process is also provided. The apparatus has chambers which are connected together by conveyors so as to achieve a quasi-continuous flow of material.

A method of forming a bilayer glazing panel by providing an optically clear prelaminate of stretched polyester film coated with a cross-linked, self-healing polyurethane layer; assembling the prelaminate with a layer of plasticized partial polyvinyl butyral with the side of the polyester film without the polyurethane layer in facing contact with a subjacent textured surface of the partial polyvinyl butyral layer; clamping the assembled layers in a perimeter anchoring system; sequentially carrying out the following steps i), ii), iii), and optionally the above clamping step within an air autoclave; i) deairing the interface between the polyester film and plasticized partial polyvinyl butyral; ii) forcing localized regions of the layers within the perimeter anchoring system against a sheet of glass; and iii) subjecting the assembly of step ii) to elevated temperature and pressure while the plastic layers remain clamped within the perimeter anchoring system to firmly bond the plastic layers and glass sheet together.

A method of producing a laminated sheet-like material, which comprises interposing an adhesive powdery thermoplastic resin composition or an air-permeable sintered product thereof between at least two sheet-like materials to form an assembly, maintaining the assembly at reduced pressure to deaerate the adhesive layer, and heating the assembly while maintaining it at reduced pressure at least at the intial stage of heating thereby to melt the powdery thermoplastic resin composition or the sintered product and bond the sheet-like materials to provide an integral body.
摘要:
A process for producing glass laminates including at least one sheet of glass having a thickness not exceeding 1.0 mm with reduced optical distortion and shape consistency. A pre-laminate stack of two glass sheets and a polymer interlayer are stacked between two buffer plates that are formed nominally to the desired shape of the laminate mold. The pre-laminate stack is held between the buffer plates while a vacuum is applied to the edges of the pre-laminate stack and the stack is heated to a temperature somewhat above the softening temperature of the interlayer to de-air and tack the interlayer to the two glass sheets forming the desired shaped laminate with reduced optical distortion.
