    摘要: The present invention relates to a security element for security papers, value documents and the like, having a micro-optical moiré magnification arrangement having a first motif image that consists of a planar periodic or at least locally periodic arrangement of a plurality of first micromotif elements (38) that produce a hidden piece of image information, and a planar periodic or at least locally periodic arrangement of a plurality of microfocusing elements (34) for the moiré-magnified viewing of the first micromotif elements of the motif image, the first micromotif elements (38) being formed from nematic liquid crystal material and forming a phase-shifting layer for light from a specified wavelength range, and the magnified moiré image being perceptible substantially only upon viewing the security element through a polarizer.

    摘要: In an identification medium, switching of images can be clearly observed, and the medium has a structure produced at low cost. The structure comprises a cholesteric liquid crystal layer 102 in which a hologram is formed, and which selectively reflects circularly polarized light of a specific rotating direction of a specific central wavelength, a cholesteric liquid crystal layer reflecting the entire range of visible light 105 which has reflection characteristics equivalent to a case of reflecting the entire range of visible light and which reflects circularly polarized light of the same rotating direction as the circularly polarized light reflected from the cholesteric liquid crystal layer 102, and a display pattern 106 having a specific content displayed, arranged in this order, as seen from the side of observation.

    摘要: A reflective film includes interior layers that selectively reflect light by constructive or destructive interference, the layers extending from a first to a second zone of the film. In the first zone the layers provide a first reflective polarizer characteristic, and in a second zone the layers provide a substantially different reflective polarizer characteristic. The second zone is characterized by at least some of the layers having a reduced birefringence relative to their birefringence in the first zone. In some cases the first reflective polarizer characteristic may have a pass axis that is substantially orthogonal to that of the second reflective polarizer characteristic. The film may have substantially the same thickness in the first and second zones, or a substantially reduced thickness in the second zone relative to the first zone.

    摘要: A reflective film includes interior layers arranged to selectively reflect light by constructive or destructive interference, the layers extending from a first zone to a second zone of the film. The film has a first thickness and the interior layers provide a first reflective characteristic in the first zone; the film has a second thickness and the interior layers provide a second reflective characteristic in the second zone. The difference between the first and second reflective characteristics is not substantially attributable to any difference between the first and second thicknesses, which difference may be zero. Rather, the difference in the reflective characteristics is substantially attributable to reduced birefringence of at least some of the interior layers in one zone relative to the other zone. The film may also incorporate absorbing agents to assist in the manufacture or processing of the film. Related methods and articles are also disclosed.
