    摘要: A method of forming a casting includes providing a preform to a mold cavity. The preform is formed from one of a first metal and a second metal and defines an interface surface. A molten portion of the other of the first metal and the second metal is cast into the mold such that the molten portion proximately contacts the interface surface of the preform. An interface layer at the interface surface, a first portion defined by the mold cavity and the interface layer, and a second portion defined by the interface layer, are formed during casting. The interface layer may define a metallurgical bond between the first portion and the second portion. In the non-limiting example provided herein, the first portion is substantially comprised of aluminum and the second portion is substantially comprised of magnesium. In a non-limiting example, the casting may be configured as a vehicle wheel.

A first wheel couples to the first axle shaft of the axle assembly. An axle lubricating fluid is disposed within the axle housing. A cooling circuit fluidly coupled to the axle assembly circulates cooling fluid therethrough. The coil conducts cooling fluid through the first axle housing separately from the lubricating fluid. A cooling fluid circuit is selectively fluidly coupled to the first coil to circulate the cooling fluid therethrough.

    摘要: A wheel weight assembly mounts to a vehicle wheel disk section. The wheel weight assembly includes an annular starter weight mounted to the wheel disk section. The starter weight has mounting bores extending therethrough and centering taps projecting therefrom. The assembly also includes threaded members, nut members, an outer weight and attaching bolts. The starter weight includes a plurality of depressions. Each depression receives and prevents rotation of a nut member. Each threaded member extends through a corresponding one of the mounting bores and into a corresponding one of the nut members. The outer weight has attaching bores and centering recesses which receives the centering tabs. Each attaching bolt extends through a corresponding one of the attaching bores and is threadably received by a corresponding one of the nut members.

    摘要: A method of forming a Salisbury axle that includes: forming an assembly having a housing that is made of nodular iron, the housing having an opening and a pair of apertures; removing a pair of caps from the housing to expose a pair of journals; installing a differential through the opening to the journals; replacing the caps to the journals; forming a pair of axle tubes from a high strength steel, each of the axle tubes having a circular proximal end, a circular distal end and a mount portion between the proximal and distal ends, the proximal ends of the axle tubes being larger in diameter than the apertures, the mount portion having a top wall and a pair of opposite side walls that are oriented generally perpendicular to the top wall; and inserting the proximal ends of the axle tubes into the apertures. A Salisbury axle is also provided.

    摘要: An axle assembly for a motor vehicle comprises an axle housing having a central axis and first and second openings formed through the axle housing opposite to each other, a carrier with a differential bearing support supporting a differential thereon for rotation about the central axis, and an abutment member attached to the axle housing adjacent to the first opening to extend substantially in a direction of the central axis. The carrier is fastened to the axle housing adjacent to the second opening therein. The abutment member engages the differential bearing support and absorbs a gear separating force imparted in operation by the differential and transmitted to the differential bearing support. Thus, the abutment member restrains deflection of the differential bearing support relative to the axle housing resulting from the gear separating force.
