The present disclosure provides an automatic tracking shopping cart. The automatic tracking shopping cart comprises an automatic tracking device. The automatic tracking device is fixed to a body of the shopping cart, operative to control movement of the shopping cart for tracking a target object. The automatic tracking device comprises: an image collection unit configured to collect a color image and a depth image of a field of image; a processing unit configured to identify the target object based on the collected color image and depth image, and determine a motion parameter of the shopping cart based on a position and/or movement of the target object; and a shopping cart driving unit configured to drive the shopping cart to move based on the determined motion parameter. A method for automatically controlling movement of a shopping cart to track a target object is also provided.

A modular storage system utilizes a plurality of carts. Each cart has a base with a platform, ends, sides, and end panels attached to and extending upwardly from the ends. The end panels and platform define a storage space that is accessible through one of the sides. The carts also have a truss between the end panels for hanging articles. The carts have wheel assemblies attached to and extending below the base to provide a rolling surface adapted to roll on the floor and a track follower mechanism for engaging a track in the storage facility housing the modular storage system. In one embodiment, the truss height is large enough such that when a hanger is hung from the truss, the truss height prevents the hanger from swinging through an arc greater than about twenty degrees when the modular storage unit is moved in a direction parallel to the track. In another embodiment of the present invention, the truss has dual truss members, one truss member being the truss top and another truss member being the truss bottom.

The frame of the guided tractor is provided with free wheels that are adapted to travel on the floor surface along with the driving wheels. The frame components are equipped with a clamp mechanism capable of being raised and lowered, the clamp mechanism being adapted to be raised and clamp the frame of the cart when the guided tractor has come to an appropriate position under the frame of the cart. A sensor is provided at a portion suitable for detecting the guide signal sent out from the guide element, such as a magnetic tape.
