摘要: A hull form design which incorporates bi-lateral semi-sponsons disposed on either side of a non-stepped V-shaped center hull section. The semi-sponsons extend the entire length of the hull form and comprise protrusions extending away from the center section. The semi-sponsons are delimited by longitudinal steps extending below the hull bottom an equal distance from the centerline on opposite sides of the hull. This design is a hybrid of conventional “V” hulls and catamarans and improves the roll and turn initiation time of convention monohull designs.

摘要: A watercraft (99) having a stepped hull (100) including a forward hull portion (103), a first stepped hull portion (106), and optionally a second stepped hull portion (108). Outboard ram air fins (120) extend outwardly from the hull and downwardly along the stepped hull portions. Outboard strakes (110, 112) are fixed to the stepped hull portions, and may be tapered to define ports thereto. During planing operation the channels defined by the fins compress the incoming air which is thereby at least partially forced under the stepped hull portion. In level operation the flow through the channels tends to keep the stepped hull portions in good contact with the water.

摘要: A vessel hull having a pair of vents formed in the chine on each side for allowing air to be introduced to the bottom and a pair of downwardly extending fins formed longitudinally along the chine adjacent to each vent. Each vent can be formed by a recess in the chine dividing the chine into a forward portion and an aft portion. Each fin is preferably formed longitudinally along the aft portion of the chine and extends below the waterline. The fins counterbalance the removal of a portion of the chine to vent the bottom and increase stability during turns. The hull preferably also includes a pair of chine extensions projecting aft of the transom on each side for reducing or eliminating side-to-side oscillation of the stern when the hull is propelled through the water at slow speeds.

摘要: A boat for traveling at speed across a body of water includes a center hull having a vee-shaped bottom with a center planing surface, and an opposing pair of sponsons or ski-like structures attached outboard of the center and extending substantially alongside the central hull. Importantly, the sponsons or skis each have a substantial opening or other porting means such that large volumes of water are able to pass through in an outboard direction away from the boat, advantageously minimizing forces on the hull when there is substantial vertical downward movement of the boat. The boat is designed so that planing surfaces of the keel and sponsons operate beneath the surface of the water to lift the hull free and isolate it from the rough water surface.

摘要: Ventilated sponsons, personal watercraft having ventilated sponsons, and methods for adjusting the handling characteristics of personal watercraft by ventilating the sponsons. The present invention provides ventilated sponsons, sponsons, having holes formed through the sponsons to allow high pressure water trapped under the sponson to escape. The holes formed through the sponson thus allow for fine tuning and adjusting the performance characteristics and handling characteristics of the personal watercraft long after the point of manufacture. Ventilating the sponsons can increase straight line stability while maintaining tight cornering characteristics.
