Abstract: Described herein are cementitious composite materials incorporating carbon nanostructures (e.g., nanotubes, nanoplatelets, nanoribbons) that are employed as amendments (i.e., admixtures or additives) to cementitious waste forms as a means to enhance radionuclide and hazardous waste (e.g., heavy metals, toxic organics) retention wherein the incorporation of well-dispersed carbon nanostructures yields more effective waste forms through the resulting modification of the cementitious composite nano-, micro-, and meso-structure (e.g., hindering the infiltration of oxygen and the leaching of waste), and the chemical interactions between chemically-affine waste molecules and the amended cementitious composite.

Abstract: Amino acid-containing carbonated composites of silicate-containing cementitious materials and methods of making the same, are disclosed. Abstract: In some implementations, a conductive concrete composition for providing improved shielding against electromagnetic radiation comprises cement, one or more supplementary materials, aggregates, one or more carbon products, and fibers. In some implementations, the composition comprises between about 5% and about 40% by weight of cement, between about 1% and about 20% by weight of one or more supplementary materials, between about 5% and about 80% by weight of aggregates, between about 1% and about 40% by weight of one or more carbon products, and between about 1% and about 10% by weight of fibers. In some embodiments, the one or more supplementary materials comprises ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), the one or more carbon products comprises graphite, and the fibers comprise steel fibers. The aggregates can include normal weight, lightweight, and/or fine aggregates.

Abstract: A method for ecological filling with mixed coal gangue and fly ash includes the following steps: S1: construction of a double-impermeable base layer: leveling a pit or gully, laying a fly ash-based cementitious material, compacting and curing; spraying a layer of polymer waterproof coating on a surface of the fly ash-based cementitious material, and fully curing to obtain a double-impermeable protective structure; S2: three-dimensional layered filling: dumping coal gangue and fly ash in sequence on the double-impermeable protective structure formed in S1, where the coal gangue and the fly ash are three-dimensionally layered and well graded; the coal gangue is coal gangue after coal washing, which is used as an aggregate; the fly ash is used as a filler and cementitious material to achieve a compact filling structure; and S3: rolling: rolling by a roller after the three-dimensional layered filling.

The cement compositions are derived from self-cementing pozzolans and chemical accelerators, retarders, mechanical strength modifiers and corrosion inhibitors. The corrosion inhibitors include boron compounds such as boric acid. Concretes prepared using the cement compositions possess low conductivity and a conductivity which further decreases with aging.
