Disclosed herein are curable solid inks which are solid at room temperature and molten at an elevated temperature at which the molten ink is applied to a substrate. In particular, the curable solid inks of the present embodiments comprise low molecular weight amide gellants that impart self-leveling capabilities to the inks. Also disclosed herein are methods for making the amide gellant and the inks comprising the amide gellants.

An environmental friendly poly(ether-fattyamide) coating composition for mild steel plates or the like comprises and/or consists of a condensation polymerization product of a fatty diol and an aromatic/cyclic diol and wherein the fattyamide diol is synthesized using rapeseed oil and further cured with an aminoplast resin and a catalyst. The rapeseed oil is combined with a crosslinker such as hexa methoxy melamine formaldehyde, butylated melamine formaldehyde, urea formaldehyde of hydroxyl values of 220-240 mg KOH/gm of resin and curing catalysts. The curing catalyst may be para toluene sulphonic acids, dodecyl sulphonic acids, orthro phosphoric acid in a solvent such as xylene, ethyl methyl ketone, ethylene glycol mono methyl ether and aromatic hydrocarbons. Additional agents such as surfactants, stabilizers, wetting agents, flow modifiers, dispersing agents, adhesion promoters and UV absorbers may be added.

The present invention is directed to a fatty amide (meth)acrylate monomer, methods of making the monomer, and latex polymers comprising the fatty amide (meth)acrylate monomer. The monomers are derived by reacting unsaturated vegetable oils with ethanolamine or substituted ethanolamine. The vegetable oil derivative is then reacted with either (meth)acryloyl chloride or (meth)acrylic acid to form a fatty amide (meth)acrylate monomer or the product of the reaction of hydroxyethyl (meth)acrylate reacted with isophorone diisocyanate to form a urethane fatty amide (meth)acrylate monomer. The increased hydrophilicity of the fatty amide (meth)acrylate monomer facilitates the diffusion through the aqueous phase. The monomer synthesis is designed to be glycerol ester-free to increase long term stability for monomers and polymers.

Water-insoluble binder resin having a surface energy greater than 40 dyne per centimeter (dyn/cm); the first pigment particles and water-insoluble binder resin present at a weight ratio of 0.75 to 2; and B. An imaging layer comprising: 1. Second pigment particles having (a) a number average particle size of 0.01-4 (μm) aggregated to form an inter-particle region of submicron pores, and (b) a pore volume of 0.4 to 2.2 (cm3/g); and 2. Water-insoluble binder resin having a surface energy greater than 40 (dyn/cm); the second pigment particles and water-insoluble binder resin present at a weight ratio of 0.75 to 2.

A liquid, pourable rheological additive expecially useful for thickening liquid organic compositions which comprises the reaction product of a defined polyalkoxylated nitrogen-containing compound, polycarboxylic acid and a liquid diamine. The additive, which exists in a pourable, pumpable form at up to a 100% rheologically active composition, exhibits excellent thickening efficiency for systems including inks, epoxies, polyesters, paints, greases and other systems, including ease of dispersibility, without adversely affecting gloss. The additive operates by both an associative and a reaction mechanism to provide rheological viscosity properties to such systems, and is also similarly useful for aqueous systems.

Novel thixotropic alkyd resins are obtained by reacting at a temperature of between about 120.degree. C. to about 150.degree. C. for at least one hour (a) at least one alkyd resin and (b) a polyamide comprising the reaction product of: (i) a polycarboxylic acid; (ii) an active hydrogen compound having the formula X.sub.m --R--Y.sub.n, wherein R represents a group containing from 2 to 12 carbon atoms, X and Y are independently selected from primary amino, secondary amino and hydroxy, and m and n are each at least 1 and the sum of (m+n) is at least 2; and (iii) a capping agent comprised of an unsaturated and/or hydroxy functional monocarboxylic acid having from 8 to 22 carbon atom. The thixotropic alkyd resins of the present invention are particularly useful in preparing thixotropic paint and coating compositions having superior leveling and sag resistance.
