Abstract:
Novel benzimidazo [2,1-a]benz[de] isoquinoline-7-one mono-urea compounds having the structure formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbyl radical of 16-22 carbon atoms, are excellent thickening agents for grease compositions employed in high temperature applications.
Abstract:
Described are lubricating greases corrosion inhibited by a synergistic amount of a mixture of sodium nitrite and N-acyl sarcosines. The greases contain from 75 to 96 parts by weight, preferably 80 to 95 parts by weight of a mineral oil having a SUS viscosity of 50 to 2500 at 100.degree. F thickened to grease consistency with about 3 to 25, preferably 5 to 20, parts by weight of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal soap or a mixture thereof.
Abstract:
Compositions of matter having two ring nuclei composed of 6 carbon atoms essentially superimposed in fixed parallel planes with respect to each other and process of preparing the same. The compositions may be advantageously employed in lubricating grease.
Abstract:
Grease compositions comprising (1) a lithium soap derived from a fatty acid containing an epoxy group and/or ethylenic unsaturation, and (2) a dilithium soap derived from a straight chain dicarboxylic acid. In a preferred embodiment, the grease composition will also comprise a lithium salt derived from a hydroxy-substituted carboxylic acid. Greases comprising lithium salts derived from an epoxy substituted fatty acid in combination with other lithium salts and derived from an ethylenically unsaturated fatty acid, a dicarboxylic acid and a hydroxy-substituted aromatic acid are particularly effective.
Abstract:
A method of preparation of a lubricant for lubricating the external surface of a drilling pipe comprising the steps of preparing a mixture consisting essentially of gear box oil, petroleum paraffins, bitumen and distillation residue; primary heating of said mixture to 100.degree.C and secondary heating up to 300.degree.C.
Abstract:
New compositions of matter having two ring nuclei composed of 6 carbon atoms essentially superimposed in fixed parallel planes with respect to each other and process of preparing the same.
Abstract:
A low-wear grease for journal bearings characterized by a high temperature, multi-purpose heavy duty hydrocarbonaceous lubricant that is thickened by calcium acetate complex to form a lubricating grease having an ASTM worked penetration no less than 265; and molybdenum disulfide and a selected class of metallic oxide in effective and synergistic amounts. Surprisingly, better lubrication is provided when the molybdenum disulfide particles are non-uniform in size so they have a range of sizes, including some fine and some relatively coarse but are small enough to pass 100 percent through a 100 mesh screen, and 85 percent through a 325 mesh screen. The metallic oxide is either antimony trioxide or a mixture of substantially equal parts of antimony trioxide, zinc oxide, lead oxide, nickel oxide, tungsten trioxide, vanadium pentoxide and copper oxide. The particles of the metallic oxide are small enough to pass 90 percent through a 325 mesh screen. All particles are uniformly dispersed in the thickened, heavy duty lubricating grease.
Abstract:
A radioactive tracer system for indicating drill bit wear or failure utilizing radioactive krypton 85 dissolved or dispersed in an organic or metal organic thickened grease. Preferably the radioactive krypton is placed so that when drill bit wear or failure occurs, the radioactive krypton 85 is released and effectively becomes diffused in the circulating drilling fluid. At the surface, the radioactive krypton 85 gas is separated from the circulating drilling fluid by gas-mud separating means and is transported as a gas to a counting chamber where an accurate radioactivity count of beta rays released from the krypton is obtained. The beta rays indicate drill bit wear or failure when detected above the normal background radioactivity of the recirculating drilling fluid.
Abstract:
Methods for producing corrosion inhibited compositions comprising lubricating oil, at least one cloudy type overbased alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal dispersant and at least one water-soluble salt effective as a corrosion inhibitor are disclosed. These compositions can be combined with additional oil and conventional grease thickeners to form corrosion inhibited greases in which substantially all solid corrosion inhibitor particles are less than 5 microns in size.
Abstract:
The bearing surface of one relatively rotatable member of a friction bearing is grit blasted to give it a roughened surface. A reservoir containing lubricant having entrained particles of anti-galling material is connected to the friction bearing and serves as a source of anti-galling material. Particles of the anti-galling material are picked up by the roughened surface and a film of anti-galling material formed on the bearing surface.
