摘要： Novel cobalt thiobis (alkylphenolates) and coordination compounds thereof with alcohols, alkyl amines, or aryl amines are effective anti-oxidant additives for various organic media such as oils of lubricating viscosity and plastics. Synergistic and improved antioxidant combinations are formed from the admixture of said additives and known antioxidants such as N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine. Additionally, these cobalt thiobis(alkylphenolates), coordination compounds thereof and said combinations are also highly useful as energy quenchers and antisludging agents in organic substrates.

摘要： A radioactive tracer system for indicating drill bit wear or failure utilizing radioactive krypton 85 dissolved or dispersed in an organic or metal organic thickened grease. Preferably the radioactive krypton is placed so that when drill bit wear or failure occurs, the radioactive krypton 85 is released and effectively becomes diffused in the circulating drilling fluid. At the surface, the radioactive krypton 85 gas is separated from the circulating drilling fluid by gas-mud separating means and is transported as a gas to a counting chamber where an accurate radioactivity count of beta rays released from the krypton is obtained. The beta rays indicate drill bit wear or failure when detected above the normal background radioactivity of the recirculating drilling fluid.

摘要： Novel polyphenol compositions are prepared by successively reacting a phenol with formaldehyde or a reversible polymer thereof and sulfurizing the same with sulfur or a sulfur halide. The formaldehyde reaction and sulfurization may be effected in either order, but preferably the formaldehyde reaction takes place first. The resulting polyphenols are useful as oxidation inhibitors in lubricants. They may also be reacted with epoxides, and either the polyphenols or the epoxide reaction products thereof may be reacted with metal bases (especially alkali metal and alkaline earth metal bases, and preferably barium or calcium) to yield basic salts. The basic salts may also be reacted with epoxides, preferably ethylene oxide and propylene oxide. The basic salts thus obtained are useful in lubricants as detergents and oxidation inhibitors.

摘要： A composition for producing an antifriction structural material comprising a carborane-containing polymer binder and an inorganic heat resistant solid lubricant. The binder is a polyester, a polyamide, a polyimide, or a polyoxadiazole containing carborane units attached to the polymer chain thereof. A process for producing said antifriction structural material from said composition comprising subjecting the composition to compression moulding at temperatures of up to 400*C, followed by coking at temperatures ranging from 400* to 900*C. The antifriction material according to the present invention is intended for operation in dry-friction units within a wide temperature range.

摘要： Compositions made by reacting (I) a metal phenoxide salt of a bridged phenol of 2 to about 20 phenol groups and (II) a carboxylic acid reagent containing from one to three carboxyl-based groups and a halogen-substituted hydrocarbon-based aliphatic or alicyclic group containing a halogen atom are useful as additives for lubricants and normally liquid fuels. Analogous thiophenoxide-based compositions are similarly useful. These compositions can also be used as intermediates for the preparation of other useful additive compositions through their reaction with alcohols, amino compounds, reactive small ring heterocycles and basically reacting metal compounds.
