    摘要: An engine may include a cylinder having a first combustion chamber at one end thereof and a second combustion chamber at an opposing end thereof, first and second cylinder heads at an end of the first combustion chamber and the second combustion chamber, respectively, and a double-faced piston slidably mounted within the cylinder. The piston may be configured to move in a first stroke from the first end to the second end of the cylinder. The piston and the cylinder may be configured such that the first stroke includes an expansion stroke portion during which chemical energy from combustion in the first combustion chamber is converted into mechanical power of the piston, and a momentum stroke portion during which the piston continues to move to the second end of the cylinder and gases are exchanged between the first combustion chamber and a location outside the cylinder.

    摘要: A linear reciprocating engine may include an engine block, a cylinder having combustion chambers at opposing ends, cylinder heads located at an end of the respective combustion chambers, respectively, and a double-faced piston. The engine may further include piston rod portions extending from both faces of the piston through the combustion chambers. The engine may further include an exhaust outlet in a peripheral cylinder wall and elongated channels in the piston rod portions being configured to serve as an intake inlet for gas from a location external to the cylinder. When the piston is in a combustion stage in a first combustion chamber, the piston blocks the exhaust outlet from communicating with the first chamber with the first channel access opening outside the first chamber, while simultaneously the exhaust outlet is in communication with a second combustion chamber with the second channel access opening within the second chamber.

The piston cylinder has an intermediate piston cylinder head disposed transversely across the interior of the piston cylinder. The piston has at least one upright extension member extending upwardly from the lower portion. A piston top wall is disposed transversely to the piston cylinder side wall and is attached to the upper portion of the upright extension member of the piston. An upper chamber is defined above the piston top wall. An intermediate chamber is defined immediately below the piston top wall and a lower chamber is defined below the intermediate piston cylinder head. A tube connects the upper chamber with the lower chamber.

    摘要: A five-cycle internal combustion engine in which a plurality of first cylinders and a plurality of second cylinders, having axes disposed in annularly spaced relation about the longitudinal axis of the housing assembly, and in annularly spaced relation with respect to one another. The inlet and outlet end portions of the first cylinders are arranged in axially opposite relation with respect to the inlet and outlet end portions of the second cylinders respectively. The first and second inlet and outlet cams associated with the first and second cylinders respectively are related to each other so that the transfer cycle movements of the inlet and outlet pistons in the first cylinders are accompanied by a generally equal and axially opposite transfer cycle movement of the inlet and outlet pistons in the second cylinders so that all transfer cycle movements of the first and second inlet and outlet pistons and the associated first and second inlet and outlet cam followers are axially balanced. Also disclosed is an improvement capable of varying the compression ratio of the five cycle engine providing a compression ratio adjusting system constructed and arranged to effect axial movement between the cooperating inlet and outlet cams so as to vary the spacing between the inlet and outlet pistons in each cylinder at the combustion position thereof so as to vary the minimum volume condition defined thereby in relation to the volume defined by the compression position thereof.

The outer piston is attached to a journal at the top of the connecting rod by a wrist pin in the usual manner.
