Abstract: A coupling assembly includes first and second coupling members, a locking member, and a blocking structure. The locking member may be a strut, a pawl, or the like. The locking member is disposed between the coupling members and is movable between coupling and uncoupling positions. The coupling position is characterized by abutting-engagement of the locking member with each coupling member. The uncoupling position is characterized by non-abutting engagement of the locking member with at least the first coupling member. The blocking structure is associated with at least one of the first coupling member and the locking member. The blocking structure prevents the locking member from entering the coupling position, and thereby prevents abutting engagement of the locking member with the first coupling member, while rotation of the first coupling member in an engagement direction relative to the second coupling member is above a predetermined rotational speed.

Abstract: A clutch assembly includes a pocket plate having a pocket and a teeter-totter strut retained in the pocket. The teeter-totter strut is pivotable to an engaged position in which an engagement face of the teeter-totter strut extends out from the pocket plate. The teeter-totter strut is pivotable from the engaged position to a disengaged position in which the engagement face of the teeter-totter strut does not extend out from the pocket plate. The clutch assembly is configured so that when a shock load force acts on the teeter-totter strut, the teeter-totter strut is prevented from moving into the engaged position.

The first element of the third planetary gear mechanism is removably connected to the second input shaft through a second spline engagement portion.

Abstract: A selectable one-way clutch includes: a pocket plate; struts; a notch plate having a plurality of notches; and a selector plate that has a plurality of window holes. The strut includes a protrusion formed at a center thereof in a radial direction of the selectable one-way clutch. The selector plate has a cutout groove extending from an inner surface of the window hole along a formation direction of the protrusion. When the selectable one-way clutch is disengaged, the cutout groove is fitted on the protrusion, and the strut and the selector plate overlap each other in a rotational axis direction of the selectable one-way clutch.

Abstract: The selectable one-way clutch includes a pocket plate, a notch plate, a cover plate, and plate-like struts. A one end portion of each strut is provided with an engagement surface and a projecting portion. Each strut comes into an erect state in which the engagement surface of the strut erects from the other surface of the cover plate toward the notch plate side. The selectable one-way clutch moves the notch plate in the axial direction to change a distance in the axial direction between the pocket plate and the notch plate, thereby carrying out switching between an out-of-engagement state in which the erecting struts cannot contact with the notches and a one-way clutch state in which the erecting struts can contact with the notches.

Abstract: A system for determining when a selectable one-way clutch has mechanically released includes an update timer identifying if each of a converter model engine torque, a transmission input torque, and a torque converter slip are positive for a predetermined period of time. An SOWC slip value is calculated using an output signal from each of: at least one transmission internal speed sensor producing an output signal representative of a speed of an internal component of a transmission; and at least one transmission output speed sensor producing an output signal representative of a speed of an output of the transmission. An SOWC released signal is issued if either all of the measured converter model engine torque, the measured transmission input torque, and the measured torque converter slip are positive for at least the predetermined period of time, or the calculated SOWC slip value is greater than a predetermined threshold.
