The flap is a material having low thermal conductivity and resistance to high temperatures, and is secured to the outer layer at a first location and releasably secured outer layer at a second location.

A V-grooved composite insulation is provided with an adhesive coating and a protective jacketing material bonded to the adhesive. The protective jacketing material extends beyond the perimeter of the grooved insulation board and comprises at least one intact release layer at a location in which the protective jacketing is clear of contact with the bottom surface of the insulation member and a pressure sensitive adhesive between the portion of the protective jacketing material and the at least one release layer. The method also comprises preshaping the grooved insulation board around a pipe by bending the grooved insulation board, removing the release layer of the protective jacketing material, thereby exposing the pressure sensitive adhesive and securing the pressure sensitive adhesive to the protective jacketing to thereby surround the pipe in a vapor free manner. Grooved insulation boards with protective jacketing so constructed are also provided.

A facing laminate for insulation products includes: a foil or metallized polymeric film sheet layer forming an inner layer of the laminate that is adapted be bonded directly to a surface of an insulation product; a paper composite sheet layer, which may include synthetic and/or inorganic fibers, forming an outer exposed layer of the laminate; and a scrim intermediate and bonded to the foil or metallized polymeric film sheet and paper composite sheet layers. The facing laminate may include a humectant and/or a water, oil, and/or grease repellant component. The paper composite sheet layer of the laminate exhibits greater dimensional stability and reduced wrinkling when the laminate is exposed to conditions of high humidity. Insulation products to be faced with this facing laminate include pipe insulation, duct board, duct wrap insulation, metal building insulation, and other building insulation products.

A pipe insulation jacket comprises two jacket members that can be joined to form a hollow cylinder. Both jacket members are made of a dimensionally stable, thermally insulating material. Both jacket members are provided with an elastic coating layer extending over the inner surface and over one of the radially extending end faces of the jacket members. The outer surfaces of the two jacket members are covered by a common tape linking the jacket members at one side in such a way that they can be spread apart at the other to such an extent that the insulation jacket can be radially moved onto the pipe to be insulated. The tape extends over the jacket member at the side where the two jacket members are spread apart, and its inner side is provided with an adhesive layer to interconnect the two jacket members once the pipe is enclosed.

A composite pressure sensitive adhesive construction contains a central release liner, a layer of an adhesive on each side thereof, and optionally, an exterior release liner on at least one of the adhesive layers. The central release liner and the exterior release liner contain release coatings on surfaces thereof which contact the adhesive layer. The pressure sensitive adhesive construction may be utilized in sealing pipe insulating jackets wherein the exterior release liners are removed and the adhesive construction is applied to the opposite longitudinal ends or sides of the insulating jacket cover. The insulating jacket may then be stored until utilized whereupon the central release liner is removed, the jacket inserted about the pipe, and a sealing connection then made by pressing the two exposed adhesive layers together.

The pipe insulation includes two semi-cylindrical pieces of insulating material secured by adhesive in a controlled pattern to an outer jacket or cover having a longitudinally extending overlapping flap. One strip of adhesive material with self-sealing adhesive on both sides is adhesively secured on one side to the inner side of the flap and another strip of adhesive material with self-sealing adhesive on both sides is adhesively secured on one side to the portion of the cover overlapped by the flap. The other side of each strip of adhesive material is provided with a protective paper covering during shipment and storage. When the pipe insulation is installed, the paper coverings are peeled off and the two strips of self-sealing adhesive material are pressed together.

The upper material has an adhesive side opposed to the lower material. The selected lengths are severed simultaneously, which severing step also at least initially adheres the material together. Glue strips are placed on selected portions of the composite and registry is then made with a length of molded pipe insulation. The insulation is wrapped with the composite covering, the portion having the second strip being part of a flap for subsequent use in securing the insulation around the pipe.
