A device for imaging light, or a source of the light, includes a window for receiving incident light from the source, at least one metasurface, and at least one wedge prism. The metasurface and the wedge prism form a Risley pair and are displaced independently of each other. Each of the metasurface and the wedge prism are operative to deflect the incident light at an angle that is different from an angle of light incident upon them. Each metasurface includes a plurality of sub-wavelength structures that are operative to interact with the incident light received from the window. The device also includes a lens system that is operative to transmit the incident light received from the at least one metasurface and the at least one wedge prism and focuses it on a focal plane.

A method and associated apparatus are disclosed for measuring illumination characteristics of a luminaire having unknown characteristics. The method includes steps of providing an array of calibrated photodetectors in known locations in proximity to a mounting location, and then illuminating the array with a luminaire having unknown illumination properties. The resulting data is used to calculate the luminous intensity vs. angle from the luminaire and the luminous flux of the luminaire. Methods of calibrating the measurement with a known luminaire are presented along with methods of determining the angular position of the detectors in the array. Color-sensitive detectors can be used to determine the angular distribution and average value of the luminaire's correlated color temperature.

An optical imaging method for analyzing an ex vivo tissue sample of a subject is provided. The method includes obtaining the ex vivo tissue sample, preparing the ex vivo tissue sample onto a sample receptacle of an optical imaging system, and emitting excitation light toward the ex vivo tissue sample. The method also includes acquiring imaging data of light emitted by the ex vivo tissue sample in response to the excitation light, analyzing the imaging data to determine whether the ex vivo tissue sample contains pathologic tissue, and generating an output indicating to an operator whether the ex vivo tissue sample contains pathologic tissue.

A light source support apparatus includes: a base member; a first support member supporting the base member rotatably about a first axis; first and second arm members connected respectively to opposite ends of the base member and extending in a direction parallel to the first axis; and a pair of second support members disposed at respective positions, which are opposite to each other, of the first and second arm members for supporting a sample light source. The pair of second support members is configured to be able to rotate the supported sample light source about a second axis orthogonal to the first axis. At least one of the first and second arm members is configured to be attachable to and detachable from the base member.
