Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to analyzing subterranean cylindrical structures using acoustic sensing. On example includes: sending first acoustic waves in the wellbore via a radial acoustic sensor; receiving first reflection waves associated with the first acoustic waves via the radial acoustic sensor; sending second acoustic waves in the wellbore via the radial acoustic sensor; receiving second reflection waves associated with the second acoustic waves via the radial acoustic sensor; processing recorded data associated with the first acoustic waves, the first reflection waves, the second acoustic waves, and the second reflection waves, wherein the first acoustic waves are associated with a first radial direction, and wherein the second acoustic waves are associated with a second radial direction, the second radial direction being opposite the first radial direction; and generating a plot for identification of one or more isolation regions in the wellbore based on the processing.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a pressure in an annulus between an inner casing and an outer casing. An acoustic transducer is disposed within the casing at a selected depth within the inner casing and is configured to generate an acoustic pulse and receive a reflection of the acoustic pulse from the inner casing. A time of flight is measured of the acoustic pulse to the inner surface of the inner casing. An inner diameter of the inner casing is determined from the time of flight. The pressure in the annulus is determined from the inner diameter. A processor can be used to measure time and determine inner diameter and annulus pressure.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods for investigating a subsurface volume of interest from a borehole. Apparatus comprise an enclosure configured for conveyance along the borehole; an acoustic source in the enclosure configured to generate acoustic signals; a lens assembly disposed in the enclosure and next to the acoustic source, the lens assembly being formed of a plurality of cells, each cell formed as a column oriented transverse to a direction of travel of the acoustical signals. Each cell comprises a plurality of cell segments with each cell segment of the plurality comprising at least one arcuate wall and at least one radial finger, and wherein the cell segments are oriented in alignment with a rhodonea conformal mapping geometry in a plane transverse to the column to cause acoustic waves to travel at a different speed in each of three orthogonal directions.

Abstract: An apparatus for estimating a fraction of each component of a fluid of interest flowing in a cased borehole and a property of the fluid includes an acoustic waveguide sensor having a waveguide configured to guide an acoustic signal along a waveguide path and an array of acoustic transducers coupled to the waveguide for transmitting and receiving an acoustic signal, the acoustic waveguide sensor being configured to transmit and receive a compression-wave acoustic signal that is reflected off of the casing and transmit and receive a shear-wave acoustic signal that propagates along the path. A controller is coupled to the waveguide sensor and configured to perform a compression-wave acoustic measurement on the fluid using the acoustic waveguide sensor in order to estimate the fraction of each component of the fluid and to perform a shear-wave acoustic measurement in order to estimate the property of the fluid.
