Some embodiments disclosed herein provide a daylighting device including a tube having a sidewall with a reflective interior surface, a light collecting assembly, and a light reflector positioned to reflect daylight into the light collector. In some embodiments, the light collector is associated with one or more light-turning and/or light reflecting structures configured to increase the amount of light captured by the daylighting device. Optical elements may allow for the absorption and/or selective transmission of infrared light away from an interior of the daylighting device.

    摘要: Lighting devices and methods for illuminating the interior of a building with natural daylight are disclosed. In some embodiments, a daylighting apparatus includes a tube having a sidewall with a reflective interior surface, an at least partially transparent light collector with one or more light turning elements, and a light reflector positioned to reflect daylight into the light collector. The one or more light turning elements can turn direct and indirect daylight into the tube so that it is available to illuminate the building. In some embodiments, the tube is disposed between the light collector and a diffuser positioned inside a target area of a building. In certain embodiments, the tube is configured to direct at least a portion of the daylight transmitted through the light collector towards the diffuser.

    摘要: The light guide apparatus will guide a beam whose rays have a predetermined phase space distribution with a maximum deviation angle .theta..sub.max in a first plane perpendicular to the beam axis. The guiding apparatus includes an optical system positioned at a distance l/2 from the first plane for receiving light from the edge of the spreading beam along an edge of width l tan .theta..sub.max and for diverting the light towards the beam axis to reproduce the predetermined spatial distribution in a second plane perpendicular to the beam axis at a distance l from the first plane. The optical system can be made from annular or cylindrical, regular or fresnel lenses. A number of systems may be sequentially mounted to guide a beam along any desired distance with in a straight line or perpendicular to its original direction.

    摘要: A flexible sheet-form optical system, referenced to as a light redirecting fabric, which has a fabric-like behavior and light redirecting properties. The light redirecting fabric comprises a soft and flexible sheet of optically transmissive material, such as plasticized polyvinyl chloride. A surface of the flexible sheet includes a plurality of parallel slits having spaced-apart walls configured to reflect light by means of a total internal reflection. At least a portion of daylight incident onto the sheet is internally redirected at bend angles greater than the angle of incidence. Disclosed also are a method and apparatus for making the light redirecting fabric. The method includes steps of mechanical slitting of the flexible sheet with a blade, elastic stretch-elongation of the sheet along a direction perpendicular to the slits, and making at least a portion of the sheet elongation irreversible.

    摘要: A head mounted display (“HMD”) includes a display module, an eyepiece, a switchable hologram, and a controller. The display module is configured for launching CGI light along a forward propagating path. The eyepiece is optically coupled to receive the CGI light and direct the CGI light to an eye-ward region of the eyepiece. The switchable hologram is disposed along a surface of the eyepiece and the switchable hologram is configured to redirect ambient light propagating toward the eyepiece, when activated. The controller is coupled to the switchable hologram to activate and deactivate the switchable hologram.
