    摘要: In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a method is described for ultrasonically splicing together overlapping ends of first and second lengths of photographic film strips of common film strip width with a film splicer employing a stationary elongated ultrasonic horn positioned on one side of the overlapping film strip ends in the width direction and a relatively movable anvil positioned on the opposite side of the overlapping film strip ends which traverses across the overlapping film ends by sliding or rolling in the length direction of the horn while the horn is ultrasonically vibrated and which provides pressure to the overlapping film ends while traversing across the overlapping film ends such that ultrasonic energy from the horn is transferred to the overlapping film ends effecting an ultrasonic weld between such film ends, wherein one of the first and second lengths of photographic film strips comprises an acetate based film strip and the other of the first and second lengths of photographic film strips comprises an acetate based film strip or a polyester based film strip, and wherein the product of the anvil pressure and anvil traverse rate is less than 6.0 kg,mm/sec when the anvil is slid across the overlapping film ends and less than 3.5 kg.mm/sec when the anvil is rolled across the overlapping film ends. The method enables the use of existing commercially available ultrasonic splicers to splice either polyester-based films to acetate-based films or acetate-based films to themselves and provide an adequate level of splice strength and smoothness.

    摘要: A film re-shaping device for orienting and re-shaping the end of a filmstrip in a desired configuration having, a base, an alignment post mounted on the base, an elongated metal lower die plate with an guide hole for positioning the die plate over the alignment post, formed in the desired end-of-filmstrip configuration, a film guide mounted on the die plate for aligning an edge of the filmstrip, a film edge spring for keeping the filmstrip against the film guide, a spring loaded roller attached to the base for bearing on the filmstrip and flattening the filmstrip against the die plate surface, and an elongated metal upper punch plate having an guide hole for positioning the punch plate over the alignment post and aligning the plates accurately with each other, formed at the film re-shaping end in the desired end-of-filmstrip configuration, whereby the filmstrip is captured between the upper and lower plates, is described. The device has a raised rib formed along the bottom of an outer edge of the end of the punch plate for shearing the filmstrip, removing the damaged portion of the filmstrip and re-shaping the undamaged portion of the filmstrip in the desired end-of-filmstrip configuration. A method of re-shaping the end of a filmstrip using the device is also described.

    摘要: A photographic film splicer includes a supporting pad or platform on which ends of photographic film strips are supported, and a movable heat block which applies heat and pressure to a heat activated splice tape and the film ends. A heated die attached to the heat block and a plurality of spring-loaded pins supported by the platform apply heat and pressure to a portion of one of the film ends proximate the splice tape to deform a portion of the film strip. The deformed area of the film strip acts as a ramp proximate the splice tape which guides film strips over the interface of the splice tape and the film strip during operations in which the web of photographic film is cut into individual lengths and in which the individual lengths of film are stacked.

    摘要: Cut lengths or segments of photographic strip material, particularly photographic film, are stacked as they are discharged from a photographic film cutter. The device for stacking the cut lengths includes a tray, an arm, a base, and a guide. The base is connected to the film cutter, and supports the film tray with the first end of the tray positioned closely to the discharge end of the film cutter. The arm is positioned in generally overlying position with respect to the tray and is pivotally connected to the tray at the second end of the tray furthest from the discharge end of the film cutter. The arm preferably has a "W" shaped cross section which provides two lines of contact with the cut lengths of film which are deposited between the tray and the arm. The guide provides a guiding surface parallel to the path of the cut lengths along their front edges. The guide may take a plurality of positions to accommodate films of different widths. In addition, the tray may be mounted in a plurality of different positions with respect to the base to accommodate even further variation in film widths. Removal of the cut lengths of film is from the rear rather than from the front of the film tray assembly.

    摘要: A film splicer has a base, a lid hinged thereto and carrying a blade, and a film support plate, which plate has two portions carrying pegs for engaging in the sprocket-holes end portions of two lengths of film to be spliced and holding them in desired positions. The said two portions of the plate are separated by a slot and the lid carries a plunger, which as the lid is closed, engages the slot to spread the portions before the cutting knife trims the ends of the lengths of film. After the cutting the two portions move back towards each other, thus compensating for the usual gap which is left between the two film length ends due to the passage of the blade.

    摘要: Motion picture sound film is spliced by cutting the film transversely between the adjacent picture frames, then longitudinally forward between the picture frames and sound stripe to the end point at which the sound relates to the first picture frame adjacent the transverse cut, and then transversely across the sound stripe at said end point. A similar cutting is made at the opposite end of a length of the film to be removed, whereby to provide a pair of mating ends on film portions to be joined. These mating ends are arranged with their mating edges in abutment, the forwardly extended sound stripe of the first cutting fitting into the notch formed by the removal of sound stripe in the second cutting, and the picture frames adjacent the transverse cut being in edge-to-edge abutment. Pressure sensitive transparent tape then is applied across the abutting transverse and longitudinal edges to secure the splice.

    摘要: A tape splicer having a base, at least one groove extending longitudinally on said base and being of a predetermined breadth permitting insertion thereinto of a correspondingly wide tape to be spliced. A blade-guiding slot is provided in the groove to allow introduction thereinto of a blade, so that this blade moved along this slot will cut a tape laid along the groove. A pair of tiltable toggles is associated to the base. These toggles are located longitudinally of the groove and at opposite sides of the blade-guiding slot. At least one arm is comprised in each of the toggles and is provided with a tape-clamping means which is arranged so that it reaches, when the toggle is tilted, into the groove; thus, the pair of toggles engages with the tape-clamping means the tape laid into the groove thus securing a clean cut.
