    Abstract: A remote control device for remotely controlling a target device to be controlled is provided. The remote control device includes a communication module configured to transmit a request a license activation to an external server via a gateway along with first remote control device information for identifying the remote control device and first infrared (IR) library information for identifying the IR library DB, receive, from the gateway via the gateway, license activation information encrypted by an encryption algorithm, the encrypted license activation information including second remote control device information, second IR library information, and a license activation key code for the IR library DB, an input module configured to receive a user input for remotely controlling a target electronic device to be controlled, and a controller module configured to decrypt the encrypted license activation information by a decryption algorithm to extract the second remote control device information, the second IR library information and a license activation key code, and activate the IR library DB with the license activation key code, and generate remote control signals corresponding to the user input, utilizing the activated IR library database.

    Abstract: A method and a system of using vibration signatures for pairing two devices. The method and the system include an apparatus that has a master side and a slave side. The slave side has at least one frictional structure. A first device is inserted into the master side. When a second device is inserted through the slave side, a pattern of vibration is generated. Vibration detecting devices on the first and second devices detect the pattern of vibration. A program of the first device validates a master vibration signature and configures the first device as a master device. A program of the second device validates a slave vibration signature and configures the second device as a slave device. The master device and the slave device are automatically paired.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed for remote monitoring of a premises, comprising the steps of operatively coupling a geographically remote client to a security system server which is capable of authenticating a user of the remote client, operatively coupling the remote client to a security gateway which is capable of managing the monitoring of the premises, activating a signal at the premises for notifying an occupant at the premises that remote monitoring is occurring, and transferring information between the security gateway and the remote client. The transfer of information between the security gateway and the remote client is controlled by the user of the remote client. The security gateway may be operably coupled to at least one camera at the premises and to at least one audio station at the premises. The notification signal may comprise an audible signal or a visible signal or both. An audible notification signal may comprise a sound uniquely associated with the remote user, and can comprise speech, which may identify the remote user. A visible notification signal may comprise a depiction of the remote user, or a graphical image, or an alphanumeric message, which may identify the remote user, and which may be transmitted to a keypad at the premises. The visible notification signal may be transmitted to a display device, such as a television. The visible notification signal may further comprise an activation signal for a light source at the premises, such as a light emitting diode (LED). The LED may be located on a camera or on a keypad, for example.
