摘要:
The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses for determining the ratio of oxidized and reduced forms of a redox couple in solution, each method comprising: contacting first and second stationary working electrodes and first and second counter electrode to the solution; applying a first potential at the first stationary working electrode and a second potential at the second stationary working electrode relative to the respective counter electrodes and measuring first and second constant currents for the first and second stationary working electrodes, respectively; wherein the first and second constant currents have opposite signs and the ratio of the absolute values of the first and second constant currents reflects the ratio of the oxidized and reduced forms of the redox couple in solution. When used in the context of monitoring/controlling electrochemical cells, additional embodiments include those further comprising oxidizing or reducing the solution.

A fuel cell system includes a cell stack, a temperature sensor which detects a temperature of the cell stack, an outside air temperature sensor which detects an outside air temperature, and a CPU which controls a process in the fuel cell system. When the temperature of the cell stack is lower than a predetermined temperature, the fuel cell system performs a temperature raising operation of the cell stack by making the concentration of aqueous methanol solution in an aqueous solution tank higher than in a normal operation and by making an output of an aqueous solution pump greater than in the normal operation. The CPU sets a run time for the temperature raising operation based on a detection result from the outside air temperature sensor, a detection result from the temperature sensor, and a run time setting table which is stored in a memory. The fuel cell system is capable of raising a temperature of the fuel cell quickly and stably to the predetermined temperature.

A fuel cell device has a small and compact structure as a whole. The fuel cell device employs a fuel cell (e.g., direct methanol fuel cell of an MEA structure) using liquid fuel. Diluted liquid fuel is prepared by diluting the liquid fuel (methanol-contained liquid in the case of DMFC) with dilution liquid, and is supplied to the fuel cell. A first pump unit stacked on the fuel cell supplies the diluted liquid fuel to the fuel cell while diluting the liquid fuel by mixing the liquid fuel and the dilution liquid together. A second pump unit stacked on the fuel cell collects liquid (water usable as dilution liquid in DMFC) produced by an electrochemical reaction in the fuel cell.
