摘要:
A multi-domain network manager provides alarm correlation among a plurality of domains included in a communications network. Individual network management systems each monitor a single respective domain of the communications network, and provide intra-domain alarms indicative of status specific to the single respective domain. The multi-domain network manager receives the intra-domain alarms, and correlates them to provide inter-domain alarms as well as responses in the form of corrective actions. The multi-domain network manager thus provides a high level of correlation and response for the entire network while each network management system provides a lower level of correlation and response for an individual domain of the network.

A method and a system for supporting communication for a first user who desires to be able to communicate with second foreign users in an environment in which communication can take place via several different telecommunication networks. The first user in each telecommunication network has an address which is used by the foreign users when making a call. The calls which use this address instead of being terminated by the user are terminated by an intermediary. The intermediary communicates as the receiving party to the calling party, in accordance with predetermined instructions given by the first user. The intermediary either performs an predetermined procedure or establishes communication with the first user in accordance with the instructions given. The user is therewith afforded the possibility of taking a dynamic position with regard to how each call shall be dealt with.

Methods and apparatus for employing a communications system with actively connects communicating entities to mediate transactions. Disclosed are general methods and apparatus for mediating transactions, methods and apparatus permitting information from one transaction to be used in other transactions, and methods and apparatus for performing credit card transactions in which the vendee need not disclose his credit card to the vendor. An implementation of a system for performing credit card transactions in a stored program-controlled telephone switching network is also disclosed.

All existing services that can be offered in one telecommunication network can be offered across networks without changing any existing interfaces and protocols. A mediation access processor (MAP) is provided in a network element located in a first network that is interconnected with a second network. The MAP provides screening, translation and emulation functionality, so that (a) messages transmitted between switches in the first network and SCP's or other application processors in the second network can be properly converted so as to be recognized and understood, (b) changes to the intercommunication arrangements of the switches and the SCP's, such as the protocols that are supported, are not necessary.

A method of mediating message traffic across interfaces open to third parties in an Advanced Intelligent Network for a switched telephone system is disclosed. Network utilization is monitored by maintaining message counts at the open interfaces and rejecting messages or terminating access via the interface when an excessive rate of traffic is detected. Access to data bases stored in service control points is used to determine if the sender identified in the contents of the message is the same as the entity authorized to use the physical port upon which the message was received. Also, customer records in the service control point are tested to determine if the sender of the message is authorized to affect the call progress of an affected customer directory number identified in the message. Upon termination of the message traffic across a port, a default application is activated so that other network elements do not have to rely on timeouts to continue processing of calls.

A bridge connection is made between the interfaces on physically distinct telecommunication servers such that the two ends of the bridge can be used to connect existing calls that are terminated on each of the servers. To provide the bridge connection, a call using a standard outgoing PRI trunk on one of the servers is made through the public switched telephone network (PSTN) to an incoming PRI trunk on the other server. When a bridge connection is required one of the servers is queried for its directory number, which is any number that the PSTN has assigned to equipment in that server. The other server is then instructed to make a call to that number. When the called server recognizes the incoming call as bridge connection, its answers the call. The calling server then associates the bridge connection with the pending action, using information encoded in the out-of-band signal with which the call between the servers was established. In this manner, calls terminating on distinct servers can be connected without the need for additional hardware.

A method of mediation of data packet traffic across an interface between the Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) operated by a local exchange carrier and a non-local exchange carrier service provider is disclosed. The interface is defined between a service provider's network device, such as a service control point (SCP), that has access to the AIN through SS7 protocol data links connected to a local exchange carrier device, such as a service transfer point (STP). Gateway screening at the STP is used to perform certain mediation steps with respect to data packets that originate with non-local exchange carrier network elements. An invalid data packet is rejected, but a valid data packet is passed for further mediation steps to a mediated access SCP. Prior to further routing of the data packet (other than rejection), the mediated access SCP removes information from the data packet regarding the source of the data packet. The mediated access SCP stores this removed information, generates substitute information, correlates the removed information with the substitute information, and replaces the removed information in the data packet with substitute information. The mediated access SCP examines the responsive data packet upon receipt for inclusion of the substitute information. If the responsive data packet does not include this substitute information, the data packet is rejected. If the responsive data packet includes the substitute information, and is otherwise valid, mediated access SCP correlates the substitute information to the removed information, and uses the removed information to further route the data packet.
摘要:
A method of regulating and managing network traffic at a mediated access service control point in an advanced intelligent switched telephone network that allows a local exchange carrier to monitor and enforce traffic rates negotiated between the local exchange carrier and other third party providers. The invention is implemented at a mediated access service control point in the network, and is activated when a query destined for a third party service control point is generated at a service switching point. The mediated access service control point receives this query and processes the query to determine if the query should be forwarded to the third party service control point. If the query does not violate any of the rates that have been negotiated between the local exchange carrier and the third party, the query is passed from the mediated access service control point to the third party service control point. If the query causes one or more of the negotiated rates to be violated, the query is default treated in a manner predetermined by the local exchange carrier.
