Methods and apparatus relating to provision and/or utilization of a hidden feature for accessing and/or repairing mobile devices are described. An embodiment includes a wire physically adjacent to an adhesive. The adhesive bonds a first portion of a computing device and a second portion of the computing device. The wire is capable of being heated in response to application of electrical voltage or current. In turn, the heated wire causes cutting of the adhesive to allow for physical separation of the first portion of the computing device and the second portion of the computing device. Another embodiment utilizes a hidden end of an opening in a computing device to hide a fastener. Other embodiments are also disclosed and claimed.

A method is provided for removing a polarizing sheet with a tool that includes a handle including a main body forming therein a channel for receiving adhesive dissolving liquid, a piston device mounted inside the channel, and a guide tube mounted on the main body, and a blade mounted to the handle. The guide tube has an end in communication with the channel and an opposite end positioned on the blade to guide the adhesive dissolving liquid from the channel to the blade. The polarizing sheet is removed by lifting up a portion of the polarizing sheet and placing the blade against bonding adhesive between the polarizing sheet and a substrate to which the polarizing sheet is attached to allow the adhesive dissolving liquid to be guided by the guide tube toward the blade for subsequently flowing toward and dissolving bonding adhesive.

Mobile phones have an electronic display protected by a glass shield. Between the glass and the display is often a plastic polarizing or other intermediary sheet. Removal of a damage glass can be accomplished by cutting thru the polarizer with a moving wire or blade. This separates the glass from the sensitive display and allows replacement of the glass without damaging the more expensive display.

This separating apparatus includes a first nozzle which forms a jet with a large width and a second nozzle which forms a jet with a small width. When the outer portion of a bonded substrate stack is to be separated, a jet formed by the first nozzle is used. After that, when a portion inside the outer portion is to be separated, a jet formed by the second nozzle is used.
