摘要: Disclosed is a moveable heat exchanger for use with a high temperature chamber, such as for instance a nitriding furnace. The heat exchanger is between a first position external to the furnace, and a second position in which the heat exchanger projects substantially into the furnace through an opening in a wall surface of the furnace. In use, the heat exchanger is in the first position during a high temperature portion of a process and is in the second position during a cooling portion subsequent to the high temperature portion of the process. The heat exchanger sealingly engages the wall surface about its periphery to prevent the exchange of atmospheric components in either direction between the interior of the furnace and the outside.

摘要: An apparatus for tempering fluid glues in continuous operation has a heat transfer body made of a cuboid aluminum block (26) in which is integrated the glue channel (24, 25), and the broad-side surfaces of which are thermally linked to Peltier elements (28) for heating and cooling the glue to be tempered. The Peltier elements (28) are provided on their heat transfer surfaces opposite to the aluminum block (26) with heat conductive ribs (30) that can be charged with a flow of cooling and/or heating air through an air channel (44). Inside the glue channel (24, 25) are arranged baffle plates or ribs as static mixers (36) that ensure a thorough mixing and an even temperature within the flow of glue.

摘要: The present invention is directed to a hybrid thermosyphon which may be rapidly deployed to create a frozen soil barrier for containing toxic spills. In a particular embodiment, a plurality of thermosyphons are deployed for freezing the soil around and under a defined area of soil; each thermosyphon contains a working fluid and includes an evaporator section for contact with the soil for removing heat therefrom by evaporation of the working fluid. A condenser section in flow communication with evaporator section and remote from the soil transfers heat from the working fluid to ambient by heat exchange and subsequent condensation of the working fluid when the ambient is lower than the temperature of the soil. An active refrigeration stage in heat exchange relation with at least a portion of the condenser section removes heat from the working fluid by heat exchange when the ambient is above the soil temperature. Sensors may be provided for sensing the ambient temperature for selectively operating the active refrigeration stage.

摘要: A heat exchanger assembly comprises a pair of header members and a plurality of heat transfer tubes passing between the headers members. The heat transfer tubes are adapted to transfer heat between fins on the exterior of the tubes and a working fluid in liquid or gaseous phase within the tubes. A pressure drop minimizing tube passes between the headers and has a cross sectional area significantly larger than the heat transfer tubes. The pressure drop minimizing tube is adapted to carry the working fluid in a gaseous phase either as an inlet, when the heat transfer assembly is utilized as a condenser, or as an outlet, when the heat transfer assembly is utilized as an evaporator. A member connects the pressure drop minimizing tube at one end to at least two of the heat transfer tubes for condensation to a liquid, when the assembly is utilized as a condenser, or transferring gaseous working fluid from the heat transfer tubes to the pressure drop minimizing tubes, when the assembly is utilized as an evaporator. A plurality of header tubes connect the heat transfer tubes to one another to carry the working fluid through the assembly. The pressure drop minimizing tube is preferably within the heat transfer tube array and within the fin pattern imposed on the heat transfer tubes.

摘要: A natural-draft cooling tower having a plurality of preferably roof-shaped heat exchange elements for condensing the turbine exhaust steam from a power plant. A portion of the heat exchange elements are connected to operate as condensers, and another portion of the heat exchange elements are connected to operate as dephlegmators, reflux condensers or fractionating columns, with the latter being disposed downstream, when viewed in the direction of flow of the steam, of the heat exchange elements that operate as condensers. In order to assure a complete condensation, and a residual condensation in the heat exchange elements that operate as reflux condensers, under all weather and load conditions, the heat exchange elements that operate as reflux condensers are each provided with a respective fan, the conveying capacity of which can be regulated.

摘要: Process and apparatus for cooling a compressed gas stream which utilizes one or more elongated vessels having a substantially vertical orientation. Each vessel has one compartment for indirect heat exchange between the compressed gas stream and a cooling stream and a second compartment for direct contact between the compressed gas stream and a liquid stream. The two compartments are separated by a barrier, which allows for upward passage of air, but prevents the downward passage of liquid. The design permits one to use the heat present in the compressed air efficiently.

摘要: A dual mode heat exchanger 10 for cooling airborne electronics 12 through a cold plate 14. The heat exchanger either radiates heat to air through radiator fins 18 or absorbs heat by evaporative cooling. A liquid coolant contained in grooves 16 of the cold plate 14 boils at a preselected temperature and thereby absorbs heat energy. Vapor released by the boiling liquid is exhausted through a hydrophobic filter membrane 24.

摘要: A heat sink (50), on which is mounted heat producing elements, such as transistors (40-43), is contained entirely within a cabinet (10) provided with openings (20, 27) positioned directly below and above the heat sink. The heat sink includes a rectangular plate (52) with the transistors mounted on one side and a plurality of integrally formed parallel fins (60) projecting laterally from the plate on the other side and extending diagonally thereacross. The heat sink may be convection cooled by air entering the openings (22) in the bottom of the cabinet and exiting through openings (27) in the top, or the heat sink may be forced air cooled by means of a fan (75) mounted the rear panel (16) which draws air through the openings (22) and across the fins (60).
