    摘要: An air purifying and moistening device comprises a suction section having an air entrance opening, filter means at said opening and a motor-driven fan, an air purifying section including at least an ultraviolet radiation sterilization lamp, and a water ducting section within which the sterilized air is brought into contact with the water surface before it is discharged into the room. The water supply is a water trough or water tray with a large surface area of substantially stagnant water volume, which trough or tray is covered with a removable cover plate at a distance above the water surface. A casing forms a substantially closed air passage channel part of which is formed within said housing and another part of which is formed by the water surface, the lateral walls of the trough and the cover plate above said water surface. The exit-side of the air passage channel is formed as an air exit opening of said trough, which is restricted by said cover plate at the top, by the lateral walls at both sides, and by the front wall of the trough at the bottom.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for mixing fuel and an oxidizing agent includes an electrically charged electrode which forms an electrostatic field through which a stream of fuel is passed so that the fuel particles become electrostatically charged and subsequently repel one another to disperse into and mix with an oxidizing agent and vaporize on contact with a heat source such as the wall surface of an intake manifold of an internal combustion engine or the walls of fuel burning apparatus, or combustion chambers of jet or rocket engines and the like. Fuel particles passing through the electrostatic field are charged by induction charging and in addition may also be electrostatically charged by direct contact with the electrode, which is provided with an open outlet end to permit a relatively unobstructed flow of intermixed fuel and oxidizing agent with a minimum of flow resistance and little possibility of ice formation.

    摘要: This invention relates to a process for magnetically stabilizing the operation of contactor columns containing immiscible fluids passing in dispersed countercurrent flow. The process operates by including, in an appropriate fluid phase, a magnetizable component in an amount which does not substantially change the nature of the liquid in that phase and, further, imposing upon at least a portion of the column containing dispersed phases, a magnetic field sufficient to result in substantially diminished radial mixing of the phase containing the magnetizable substance and diminished coalescence of the dispersed phase. The phase containing the magnetizable component passes through the stabilized zone in substantial plug flow.

    摘要: Precombustion ionization devices are disclosed for treating the vaporizable liquid fuel in internal combustion engines, including at least one foraminous member prepared from a catalytic metal having an oxide coating on the surface thereof. The foraminous member, or screen, is spaced from the carburetor and the engine intake of the internal combustion engine by means of a supporting gasket. The disclosed precombustion ionization devices may also be attached to a source of relatively high voltage, resulting in increased ionization of the vaporizable liquid fuel thereby, and preventing electropolishing of the metal oxide coating.
