摘要:
A method for producing a fertilizer and decay promoting substance by subjecting grape marc to aerobic decay so that in a first phase, the sugar content is converted to alcohol and microbial fermentation produces organic acids. During the first phase, the alcohol and acids react to produce aromatic esters and a decay stabilized mass. In a second phase, the mass is rearranged to facilitate access of air and promote penetration of the mycelia of Humicola lanuginusa and thermophilic actinomycetes into the mass. In a third step, the mass is rearranged to effect microbial degradation of the mycelia and the mass is dried and the pip-containing fraction is separated. The thus obtained pips or seeds are infested with spores of the above-mentioned microorganisms and still contain their natural oil content and constitute an excellent high-grade fertilizer and aerobic decay promoting agent for the decay of vegetable and animal waste materials.

The present invention provides a method and a device that utilizes capillarity-mediated, chromatographic transport, for the qualitative or semi-quantitative analysis of selected analytes in liquid samples. The device utilizes an applicator/collection device for collecting and administering the sample to the flow path such that reagent(s) flow through the applicator/collection device, washing the sample into the reaction pathway. The device further utilizes an air gap between the initial location of the reagent and the reaction pathway to funnel the reagent efficiently through the sample so as to collect all or substantially all of the sample and make it available for the reaction(s).

A novel anthracycline antibiotic designated rudolphomycin is produced by fermentaion of Actinosporangium sp. ATCC 31127 and isolation of the new antibiotic free of substances co-produced therewith. Rudolphomycin and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts exhibit antimicrobial activity and inhibit the growth of mammalian tumors.

This invention relates to inhibitors for glycosidehydrolases derived from bacteria of the order Actinomycetales, means for their production comprising cultivation of a microorganism of the order Actinomycetales in appropriate nutrient solutions under conditions most favorable to growth and production of the enzyme inhibitor and recovering, as a new product, glycoside-hydrolase enzyme inhibitors, from the culture as well as the use of said enzyme inhibitors in pharmaceutically acceptable therapeutic compositions in the treatment of conditions indicating obesity, diabetes, pre-diabetes, gastritis, gastric ulcer, hyperlipidemia (arteriosclerosis) and the like. The invention also contemplates the provision of methods of inhibiting the reaction of carbohydrates and glycoside-hydrolase enzymes and particularly carbohydrate-splitting glycoside-hydrolase enzymes of the digestive tract by means of conducting said reaction of said carbohydrates and glycoside-hydrolase enzymes in the presence of a glycoside-hydrolase enzyme inhibitor for said glycoside-hydrolase enzyme derived from a strain of microorganism of the order Actinomycetales. The invention further contemplates the provision of methods for the treatment of indications of the group consisting of obesity, adipose, hyperlipidemia (arteriosclerosis), diabetes, pre-diabetes, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, and caries induced by the action of glycoside-hydrolase enzymes and carbohydrates, the improvement which comprises employing an enzyme inhibitor for glycoside-hydrolase enzymes produced by a strain of microorganism of the order Actinomycetales.

An efficient process of optical resolution is provided for producing an L-amino acid represented by the following formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R is --CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 H, --CH.sub.2 CONH.sub.2, --CO.sub.2 H or ##STR2## in which R.sup.1 is hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or a halogen-substituted alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms. The process comprises an optical resolution of an N-substituted carbonyl-D,L-amino acid represented by the formula (II): ##STR3## (wherein R is the same as defined above and R.sup.2 is an alkanoyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, benzoyl group, a halogen-substituted alkanoyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms or a halogen-substituted benzoyl group), its salt or a mixture thereof, by means of cells of a microorganism, a fermentation broth of a microorganism, a treated fermentation broth of a microorganism or a mixture thereof, said microorganism being selected from the bacteria of the genera Serratia, Staphylococcus, Bacillus, Flavobacterium, Achromobacter and Alcaligenes and actinomycetes of the genera Actinoplanes, Streptosporangium and Sebekia.
