摘要: The present invention relates to a method for using lectins that bind to pathogens having high mannose surface glycoproteins or fragments thereof which contain high mannose glycoproteins, to remove them from infected blood or plasma in an extracorporeal setting. Accordingly, the present invention provides a method for reducing viral load in an individual comprising the steps of obtaining blood or plasma from the individual, passing the blood or plasma through a porous hollow fiber membrane wherein lectin molecules are immobilized within the porous exterior portion of the membrane, collecting pass-through blood or plasma and reinfusing the pass-through blood or plasma into the individual.

摘要: A device generates a gas-enriched physiologic fluid and combines it with a bodily fluid to create a gas-enriched bodily fluid. The device may take the form of a disposable cartridge. The cartridge may include a fluid supply chamber for delivering physiologic fluid under pressure to an atomizer. The atomizer delivers fluid droplets into a gas-pressurized atomization chamber to enrich the physiologic fluid with the gas. The gas-enriched physiologic fluid is delivered to a mixing chamber in the cartridge where the gas-enriched physiologic fluid is mixed with a bodily fluid, such as blood, to create a gas-enriched bodily fluid.

摘要: A tubular set portion for circulating blood between a patient and an extracorporeal blood treatment device. The set portion comprises: an arterial tube for conveying blood from a patient toward the blood treatment device; a venous tube for conveying blood from the blood treatment device back towards the patient; and a pair of spaced, transverse tubes that each connect between the arterial tube and the venous tube, each of the tubes being capable of clamp sealing. The arterial and venous tubes are clamp sealable between the spaced, transverse tubes. Flow reversal on the patient's side of this device is possible by appropriate clamping of two opposed tube sections of the rectangular array which may be formed by the joined tube sections, while flow remains unchanged on the side of the tubular set portion that is connected to the extracorporeal blood treatment device.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method for the systemic delivery of the nitric oxide moiety either as a dissolved gas or through the administration of nitric oxide donors in an extracorporeal circuit to reduce whole body bacterial contamination by pathogenic or toxic substrates. The utilization of an extracorporeal circuit with the entrainment of nitric oxide is viewed as a novel modality in the medical management of bacteremia (blood poisoning) and/or septicemia in mammals.

摘要: A compliant blood gas exchanger is provided including a housing having a first end cap, a second end cap, and an elastomeric sidewall or sleeve extending there between forming a chamber. A hollow fiber assembly is disposed in the chamber. The hollow fiber assembly has a first mounting collar, a second mounting collar and a plurality of hollow fibers disposed there between. The first end cap is disposed in communication with the first mounting collar and the second end cap is disposed in communication with the second mounting collar. The end caps are connected to a gas inlet and a gas outlet. The chamber is in communication with a blood inlet and a blood outlet. The elastomeric sidewall is responsive to internal and external pressures affecting the chamber. The first chamber can also be placed adjacent to a second chamber and both chambers placed within a rigid outer housing. Thus, a dual-chamber pulsatile blood gas exchanger can be provided. That is, the second chamber may be in connection with a pump mechanism or vacuum mechanism such that the chamber creates a pulsatile flow within the first chamber.

摘要: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for collecting and transporting liquids, for example blood, into one or more closed packages, for instance so called transfer bags (11, 12), or alternatively, directly transfering the blood into another liquid system, for instance a heart-lung machine, without any admixture of air or any other gas or gas mixture. The blood is collected without contact by human hand and without contamination of the blood and under sterile conditions. The apparatus comprises a suction nozzle (4) for sucking up the liquid or a liquid/air/gas mixture, a suction hose (5) for directing the liquid to a defoaming separator (7) for separating air from the liquid, and a recipient (8) in which the deacrated liquid is filtered and collected. When a certain volume has been collected, the liquid is directed without introducing air into said closed packages (11, 12) or communicated to another liquid system. The recipient (8) comprises a replaceable, flexible so-called canister bag (9) for collecting the liquid and arranged in a stiff, closed container (10) and provided with filters (17, 18) as well as filling and tapping conduits (22, 23). The recipient (8) and the corresponding packages (11, 12) are connected to the suction source (1) of the system for filling and tapping of the liquid.

摘要: An oxygenator capable of a small priming volume includes a housing defining an interior cavity. The interior cavity of the housing is subdivided into at least two chambers by a membrane. One of the chambers is a blood chamber and the other chambers are gas chambers. The oxygenator also includes an inlet tube passing through the housing and piercing the membrane to deliver blood directly into the blood chamber.

摘要: A circulatory support system and method for circulatory support are described for performing cardiopulmonary bypass using differential perfusion and/or isolated segmental perfusion of the circulatory system. The circulatory support system includes one or more venous cannulae for draining blood from the venous side of the patient's circulatory system, one or more arterial cannulae for perfusing the arterial side of the patient's circulatory system, and one or more blood circulation pumps connected between the venous cannulae and the arterial cannulae. The arterial cannulae and the venous cannulae of the circulatory support system may take one of several possible configurations. The circulatory support system is configured to segment a patient's circulatory system into one or more isolated circulatory loops. The circulatory loops may be isolated from one another and/or from the remainder of the patient's circulatory system on the venous side, as well as on the arterial side, for isolated closed loop circulatory support of separate organ systems. The circulatory support system is suitable for use in minimally-invasive cardiac surgery, using thoracoscopic, port-access or minithoracotomy techniques, or for standard open-chest cardiac surgery.
