Abstract:
A liquid colorant system for plastics comprising from about 10 percent to about 80 percent by weight colorant; from about 0.5 percent to about 30 percent dispersant; and, from about 25 percent to about 90 percent water.
Abstract:
A hollow body is formed from several multi-layer plastic elements which are welded together and comprise a barrier layer that is a barrier to liquids and to gases. The elements form an appendage which extends from an outer surface of the hollow body, wherein the appendage comprises two multi-layer plastic layers, each of the two layers having a respective barrier layer. A method for manufacturing the hollow body includes using compression moulding in a multi-part mould comprising welding kerbs. When the mould is being closed, at least the barrier layers of the multi-layer plastic elements are forced to flow into a shallow slot formed between the welding kerbs of the closed mould. A multi-part compression-blow-moulding mould comprises welding kerbs which, when the mould is closed, form a slot or space between them with a height of cross section that decreases towards the outside of the mould and which is extended by a shallow and broad slot intended to compress the plastic.
Abstract:
A film is extruded from plastic material by an extruder. The film is orientated after extrusion. Material is mixed into the plastic so that when the plastic film is stretched, cavitation bubbles are formed in the material particles mixed into the plastic. During the orientation, gas is arranged to the plastic film under high pressure so that the gas diffuses in the cavitation bubbles and causes overpressure in them. Thus, it is possible to make a thin foamed film with a foaming degree over 70%.
Abstract:
A preform for forming a hollow blow molded plastic container is provided with a closed base, a multilayer body-forming portion extending from the base, and an open neck portion that extends from the body portion. The body portion includes a co-extruded inner liner that includes (a) an innermost polymer layer, (b) at least one oxygen-scavenging layer, and (c) at least one high-oxygen barrier layer for retarding the migration of gases and moisture therethrough. An outermost layer is molded over the inner liner to form a preform. The liner and preform are formed so that the wall thickness of the individual layers can easily be varied along their lengths, however, at any given point along the length of the co-extruded liner (a) the wall thickness of the innermost polymer layer is less than 0.50 of the wall thickness of the inner liner and (b) the wall thickness of the inner liner is less than 0.25 of the total wall thickness of the preform body portion. Moreover, by the nature of the process, the innermost layer and the outer molded layer of the liner and the preform can be comprised of different polymer materials.
Abstract:
A method of twin-sheet vacuum forming plastic articles having the steps of clamping two parallel sheets of thermoplastic synthetic resin in a vertical orientation to a clamping tray and blowing air between the parallel sheets thereby creating a hollow cavity between the two parallel sheets. The two parallel sheets are then heated to molding temperature between two vertically oriented heaters. The two parallel sheets are disposed between opposing mold cavities of a vertically oriented split mold wherein the mold cavities have a contour conforming the configuration of the desired article. A negative pressure is applied to suction holes provided in the mold cavities which draw the two parallel sheets against each opposing mold cavity. The split mold is then clamped together to form a pinch off around the perimeter of the hollow cavity thereby forming a molded hollow part still disposed within the clamping tray. Simultaneously, a blow pin inserted into the hollow cavity injects compressed air further presses the heated sheets against the mold cavities. The molded hollow part is allowed to cool to a set point and the vertically oriented split mold is opened. The clamping tray is withdrawn from the split mold and shuttled away from the mold cavities where the molded hollow part is cut away from the clamping tray, still in a vertical position.
Abstract:
In the production of hollow plastic receptacles from two areas of a strip of starting material, all of each receptacle can be formed from the strip, or half of each receptacle can be formed from the strip with the halves welded together to complete the receptacles. Outside of part of at least one of the fusion seams, a marginal piece of waste segment forms at least one hollow body.
Abstract:
A method of making a multiple neck spray bottle comprising the steps of providing a blow mold having a molding cavity configured for molding a multiple-neck spray bottle have multiple open headed neck portions with at least one threaded neck portion configured to connect with the spray head, providing at least one plastic parison inside the molding cavity, blow molding the at least one parison inside the molding cavity to form the multiple neck spray bottle, and opening the blow mold to release the formed multiple neck spray bottle from the blow mold.
