One of front and rear pairs of left and right wheels, to which a running torque produced by a driving source is not transmitted, are rotated on respective axes perpendicular to the ground. The one pair of left and right wheels are rotated from straight traveling positions taken when the vehicle is running to angular positions along tangential directions of an arc passing the axes perpendicular to the ground on a neighborhood of a center point of a rotating axle for running the vehicle of the other of front and rear pairs of left and right wheels. As a left or right turn instruction is generated in response to a manipulation, motors are applied with a gradually increasing driving voltage, such that the motors apply rotating torques to the one pair of left and right wheels to turn the vehicle body on the neighborhood of the center point of rotating axles for running the vehicle of the other pairs of left and right wheels.

A hydraulic coupling for use in a vehicle drivetrain includes a housing and a pair of rotary members projecting therefrom. The hydraulic coupling also includes a hydraulic circuit defining a low-pressure portion wherein the hydraulic fluid is at a first, lower pressure and a high-pressure portion wherein the hydraulic fluid is in a second, elevated pressure relative to the first pressure. A hydraulic pump is operatively supported within the housing and located within the path of the hydraulic circuit between the low pressure and high-pressure portions. The hydraulic pump is operable to pump hydraulic fluid from the low-pressure portion to the high-pressure portion of the hydraulic circuit. In addition, a clutch is supported within the housing and located within the high-pressure portion of the hydraulic circuit. The clutch is actuable by hydraulic fluid that is pumped by the hydraulic pump at the second, elevated pressure to couple the pair of rotary members together. Furthermore, the hydraulic coupling of the present invention includes a control valve that is operable in response to a signal from a controller to selectively control the actuation of the clutch independent of the fluid pressure in the high-pressure portion of the hydraulic circuit.

For operation of the brake system having traction control, pressure quantities which describe the brake pressure established for the respective vehicle wheel are analyzed. The pressure quantities are determined as a function of the quantities detected by the sensors.

Since only a minute torque is applied to the two-way clutch mechanism to drive the hydraulic pump 26, the torque transmission capacity of the two-way clutch 32 can be decreased, whereby the miniaturization and cost reduction of the device can be attempted at being attained.
