The crude betaine fraction or its concentrate is used to separate therefrom a betaine fraction with a 2-component separation simulated moving bed chromatographic separator using as chromatographic packing a strongly acidic cation exchange resin having at least 10% (based on the ion exchange capacity) of the ionic form thereof changed to the Ca form. The betaine fraction may be concentrated and subjected to crystallization, whereby high-purity betaine can be obtained.

Said process comprises the charging into a vat of a solution of sulphuric acid at least 12N, heating the solution to at least 100.degree. C., adding simultaneously the proteins to be hydrolyzed and a complementary amount of sulphuric acid corresponding to the neutralization of the amine functions of the amino acids, maintaining the hydrolysis conditions in 12N medium and at 100.degree. C., stopping the reaction by addition of water and removing the acid in excess. Thereby, a mixture of amino acids is obtained with a good yield and without degradation.

A process for the total or partial elimination of aspartic acid and glutamic acid from a protein hydrolyzate or a mixture of aminoacids is described, which consists of passing the hydrolyzate or mixture of aminoacids in solution on an anion exchange resin and then washing with water or eluting the aminoacids from the resin. Aspartic acid and glutamic acid are at least partially separated from the other aminoacids because of their affinity for the resin which is greater than the affinity of the other aminoacids. The resulting mixtures of aminoacids may be used as such or may be further adjusted by addition of valine, leucine, isoleucine, and arginine to give products valuable in clinical nutrition.

Esterquats find major applications as fabric softeners. After Tallow fatty acids and Palm oil fatty acids, fatty acids from sustainable sources like Rice bran fatty acids (RBFA) are desired. RBFA is formed as a by-product during refining of Rice bran oil and hence it is contained in the non edible portion of the oil. The production of high quality esterquats from this by-product is challenging, but the invention describes a process to produce high quality esterquats having low odour and a low acid value. This enhances easy formulation of various products and better customer acceptance. Liquid esterquats produced from RBFA enable e.g. cold processing for fabric softener formulations.

The present invention discloses a hypocrellin derivative substituted both in a peri-position and in a 2-position by an amino, and a preparation method and use thereof. A general structural formula of the derivative is as represented by formulas I-a to I-d: The hypocrellin derivative substituted both in a peri-position and in a 2-position by an amino prepared in the present invention has a maximum absorption wavelength of 600-650 nm and a molar extinction coefficient reaching about 20000-40000 M−1cm−1. Compared with unmodified hypocrellin or hypocrellin having only a 2-position modified, an absorption spectrum of the derivative is significantly red-shifted and the molar extinction coefficient is greatly improved, and the derivative can efficiently produce reactive oxygen species such as singlet oxygen in a photosensitive condition. In the same condition, the hypocrellin derivative substituted both in a peri-position and in a 2-position by an amino involved in the present invention, when used as a photosensitizer, has a stronger ability to photo-dynamically inactivate tumor cells than the first and second generation commercial photosensitizers.
