These copolymers made affine by grafting are designed to be placed in intimate contact with materials of non-olefinic or olefinic composition with which the copolymers were not initially compatible.

    摘要: This invention is directed to a processing approach for the rapid and efficient in-situ polymerization of specially prepared precursor mixtures to achieve near-net-shape production of objects/articles with exact dimensions. The process relies on the use of polymerizable compositions comprised of a mixture of a dead polymer, a reactive plasticizer and, optionally, an initiator, which compositions are semi-solid-like prior to curing and induce low shrinkage upon curing as a result of their partially polymerized nature prior to processing. The partially polymerized nature of the precursor mixtures also allows extremely impact-resistant objects/articles to be fabricated. Other desirable engineering property attributes can similarly be achieved via the judicious blending of starting ingredients in formulating the polymerizable (curable) mixtures.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to a low VOC ultra high solids thermosetting coating composition. A polymeric component of the composition includes a low molecular weight polymer polymerized from a monomer mixture containing less than 45 percent by weight of at least one active hydrogen containing monomer. The polymerization takes place in the presence of a reactive diluent. By including the reactive diluent in the polymeric component of the composition, the amount of solvent used in the composition can be substantially reduced, while still providing a pot mix of the composition with a viscosity sufficient to permit efficient coating application. The coatings from the composition are durable; glossy; impact and solvent resistant; and adherent to a wide variety of substrates, such as automobile bumpers, road surfaces and office equipment. The surface of these coatings when subjected to scuffing or surface marring action can be substantially restored to its original condition by simply buffing or polishing the marred or scuffed surface. The invention is also directed to include a combination of chemicals in the thermosetting composition containing an isocyanate cross linking component. Such a combination simultaneously increases the pot life of the pot mix while decreasing the drying time of a coating from the pot mix at ambient temperature over a wide variety of substrate surfaces.

    摘要: Polymers comprising a polymer backbone having pendant or terminal betadiketone groups which contain at least one trifluoromethyl group. The betadiketone groups may be selected from trifluorocetoacetate groups (general formula I); ##STR1## hexafluoroacetylacetone groups (general formula II); ##STR2## or trifluoro-2,4-pentanedione groups (general formula III); ##STR3## where indicates the polymer backbone, R is an alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl group and R.sup.1 is hydrogen, alkyl or substituted alkyl. Neither the R group nor the R.sup.1 group should contain any group which is sufficiently basic to initiate cyanoacrylate polymerization or any group sufficiently acidic to interfere with chain transfer.
