Abstract: A residential plastic recycling unit addresses the challenges of plastic waste management. The unit incorporates a unique enzyme blend capable of degrading plastic containing polyethylene terephthalate into environmentally benign constituents. The unit features precision nozzles for uniform enzyme blend distribution, a grated shelf and receptacle for supporting plastic waste, and a temperature control device with a user interface for precise regulation. After enzymatic degradation, the resulting heterogenous mixture is easily removed and the receptacle cleaned.

Abstract: The purpose of the present disclosure is to provide a method for producing pulp fibres for saccharification from the pulp fibres of used sanitary items, said pulp fibres for saccharification having low lignin contents distributed within a narrow range, and enabling the production of pulp fibres for saccharification having superior saccharification properties. The production method according to the present disclosure is characterised by comprising the following: a step for supplying a mixed solution (51) containing pulp fibres and highly-absorbent polymers sourced from used sanitary items to a treatment tank (31) via a mixed-solution supply port (32); a step for supplying an ozone-containing gas (53) to a treatment solution (52) within the treatment tank (31) via an ozone-containing-gas supply port (43); a step for lifting the ozone-containing gas (53) whilst lowering the pulp fibres and highly-absorbent polymers within the treatment tank (31), thereby bringing the ozone-containing gas (53) into contact with the pulp fibres and highly-absorbent polymers, and forming pulp fibres for saccharification from the pulp fibres; and a step for discharging the treatment solution (52) via a treatment-solution discharge port (33). The method is further characterised in that the pulp fibres for saccharification have lignin contents of 0.1% or less.

Abstract: There are provided processes for recycling polystyrene waste. The processes can comprise dissolving said polystyrene waste in ethylbenzene under conditions to obtain a polystyrene/ethylbenzene mixture, adding the polystyrene/ethyl benzene mixture to a hydrocarbon polystyrene non-solvent under conditions to obtain precipitated polystyrene and washing the precipitated polystyrene with additional portions of hydrocarbon polystyrene non-solvent under conditions to obtain twice-washed polystyrene. The twice-washed polystyrene can optionally be dried and formed into polystyrene pellets. There is also provided recycled polystyrene obtained from such processes for recycling polystyrene waste.

Abstract: The invention refers to a method for recycling polyolefin containing waste by using a solvent with a specific Hansen parameter and contacting this mixture with a liquid filtration aid before separating the polyolefm from the mixture. The method comprises the following steps: Mixing the polyolefm containing waste with a solvent having a Hansen parameter δH from 0.0 to 3.0 M Pa1/2; Contacting this mixture with a liquid filtration aid having a Hansen parameter δH>4.0 M Pa1/2; and Separating the polyolefin from the mixture.

Abstract: A method for purifying a reclaimed polymer, such as a polymer reclaimed from post-consumer use or post-industrial use, is disclosed. The method involves obtaining the reclaimed polymer and contacting it at an elevated temperature and pressure with a fluid solvent to produce an extracted reclaimed polymer. The extracted reclaimed polymer is dissolved in a solvent at an elevated temperature and pressure to produce a polymer solution, which is purified at an elevated temperature and pressure by contacting the polymer solution with solid media to produce a purer polymer solution. A purer polymer is then separated from the purer polymer solution.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to carpet and methods of making and recycling carpet. In one aspect, the carpet includes: a primary backing which has a face and a back surface; a plurality of fibers attached to the primary backing and extending from the face of the primary backing and exposed at the back surface of the primary backing; an adhesive composition backing; and an optional secondary backing adjacent to the adhesive backing. The method of making carpet includes extrusion coating the adhesive composition onto the back surface of a primary backing to form the adhesive composition backing. The method of recycling carpet can recover one or more polymeric carpet components.

Abstract: Carbon fiber reclaimed from a composite part is described. The composite part may include the carbon fiber and a resin. The carbon fiber may be reclaimed from the composite part by a method comprising placing the composite part and a first solvent in an interior portion of a centrifuge insert that is defined by a wall having a plurality of perforations extending therethrough. The method may further comprise centrifuging the composite part and the first solvent contained in the centrifuge insert to allow extraction of the first solvent and at least a portion of the resin through the perforations of the centrifuge insert. The method may further comprise allowing the carbon fiber to collect in the interior portion of the centrifuge insert. The carbon fiber collected in the interior portion of the centrifuge insert may be at least partially separated from the resin.
