Improved thermoplastic polymer blend compositions comprising an isotactic polypropylene component and an alpha-olefin and propylene copolymer component, said copolymer comprising crystallizable alpha-olefin sequences. In a preferred embodiment, improved thermoplastic polymer blends are provided comprising from about 35% to about 85% isotactic polypropylene and from about 30% to about 70% of an ethylene and propylene copolymer, wherein said copolymer comprises isotactically crystallizable propylene sequences and is predominately propylene. The resultant blends manifest unexpected compatibility characteristics, increased tensile strength, and improved process characteristics, e.g., a single melting point.

Polyethylene blend compositions suitable for injection molding, injection molded articles, and processes for injection molding articles are provided. The polyethylene compositions include a first polyethylene having a melt index of 0.1 to 3.0 g/10 min and a density of from 0.905 to 0.938 g/cm3; and a second polyethylene having a melt index of 10 to 500 g/10 min and a density of 0.945 to 0.975 g/cm3. The composition has a density of from 0.920 to 0.973 g/cm3 and a melt index of 2 to 200 g/10 min, and the density of the second polyethylene is from 0.037 to 0.062 g/cm3 greater than the density of the first polyethylene. These compositions exhibit improved physical properties, such as Environmental Stress Crack Resistance, relative to conventional compositions of similar melt index and density.

These polymers are prepared in the nullresence of a metallocene catalyst and are isotactic. A propylene polymer composition is prepared by mixing propylene home- or co-polymer (A) obtained using a transition metal catalyst compound (h), defined herein, with a co-catalyst, e.g., organoaluminum oxy compound, with an olefin elastomer (D) and another olefin polymer (E), e.g., polyethylene. Alternatively, the combination of propylene polymer (A), olefin elastomer (D) and olefin polymer (E) is prepared by a multi-stage polymerization method. In both cases, the propylene homo- or copolymer (A) may include a second propylene homo- or co-polymer (Anull) wherein the ratio of intrinsic viscosities of propylene polymers (A) and (Anull) is in the range of 3 to 30. These propylene polymer compositions are excellent in heat resistance, mechanical strength, tensile elongation at break, etc., and can be used in the fabrication of structural materials, films and sheets.
