摘要: This high-density optical data storage unit comprises a storage medium supported on a mechanically stable substrate, and a read/write arrangement employing a plurality of laser light sources and an interrogation light source. The laser light sources are designed as laser diodes attached to a substrate and optically aligned with an equal plurality of microlenses integrated in a first transparent layer. The read/write arrangement further comprises at least one second transparent layer, and an optional semitransparent conductive coating, said layer or said coating carrying a plurality of particulate protrusions which are also aligned with said diodes and said microlenses, said storage medium and said read/write arrangement being maintained in a mutually parallel alignment with a gap in between having a width of less than 100 nm. The protrusions in combination with the laser light sources produce dints in the medium which are representative of the data to be stored. The data is read by using the interrogation light source to produce light which is scattered by the dints and is then detected by the diodes.

摘要: The present invention provides a recording medium having a plurality of charge accumulating regions each containing a first material capable of accumulating an electric charge and a photoconductive region containing a second material whose conductivity is increased by light absorption, a recording apparatus including such a recording medium, and a method recording information on such a recording medium. In the present invention, information is recorded on the recording medium by irradiating the photoconductive region with light and by injecting an electric charge into the charge accumulating region via that portion of the photoconductive region which is irradiated with light.

摘要: A RECORDING AND DISPLAY SYSTEM IS SHOWN INCLUDING A RECORDING MEDIUM HAVING A TRANSPARENT BASE WITH AN OPAQUE COATING ON ONE SURFACE THEREOF. A STYLUS IS TRANSDUCER DRIVEN VERTICALLY ACROSS THE SURFACE AS THE RECORDING MEDIUM IS DISPLACED LONGITUDINALLY BETWEEN STORAGE REELS FOR REMOVING THE OPAQUE COATING AND FORMING A RECORDING TRACE REPRESENTING AN INPUT SIGNAL APPLIED TO THE TRANSDUCER. A PLURALITY OF TRANSDUCER DRIVEN STYLUS UNITS ARE ARRANGED WITH INDIVIDUAL LIGHT SOURCES AND LENS SYSTEMS FOR PROJECTING THE RECORDING TRACE UPON A DISPLAY SCREEN. EACH PROJECTED RECORDING TRACE IS INDENTIFIED BY COLOR CODING AND MAY BE DISPLAYED IN OVERLAPPING ARRANGEMENT UPON THE DISPLAY SCREEN. THE PROJECTED RECORDING TRACES ARE ALSO INDIVIDUALLY MANIPULATED AND POSITIONED UPON THE DISPLAY SCREEN TO PROVIDE FOR TIME COINCIDENCE THEREOF. PHOTOELECTRIC CELLS ARE PROVIDED FOR REPRODUCING THE RECORDING TRACES AT A TIME REMOTE FROM THE INITIAL RECORDING THEREOF.

摘要: Methods and apparatus are described for a rewritable disk memory using an electro-optical molecular recording layer. In the manner of nanotechnology, each molecule is an individual multi-position switch having at least two distinct optical characteristic states. Localized electrical field injection is used to switch each molecule to one of at least two bistable position states such that each is representative of a storable data bit.

摘要: In a disk apparatus using a ferroelectric thin film coated on the surface of a disk as a recording medium, an electrode layer is formed on a substrate and the ferroelectric thin film is formed on the electrode layer, thereby forming a disk. A head is installed on an arm over the disk. The head has a reflector, and a microtip electrode, for creating or erasing polarization of the ferroelectric thin film. An optical system is provided over the head. The head moves towards or away from the disk depending on recorded information (polarization direction), and the movement is read by the optical system. Therefore, a low-priced disk apparatus, capable of freely recording and reproducing information semipermanently, is realized.
