This invention relates to a lyocell material for a tobacco filter and a method of manufacturing the same, and more particularly to a lyocell fiber having a modified cross-section for a tobacco filter, wherein the cross-sectional shape of a monofilament contained in a lyocell fiber is controlled to increase the external surface area of the fiber, after which then crimps are formed, thereby exhibiting properties equal or superior to those of conventional lyocell materials, even when used in a small amount.

A method of making indium tin oxide nanofibers includes the step of mixing indium and tin precursor compounds with a binder polymer to form a nanofiber precursor composition. The nanofiber precursor composition is co-formed with a supporting polymer to form a composite nanofiber having a precursor composition nanofiber completely surrounded by the supporting polymer composition. The supporting polymer composition is removed from the composite nanofiber to expose the precursor composition nanofiber. The precursor composition nanofiber is then heated in the presence of oxygen such as O2 to form indium tin oxide and to remove the binder polymer to form an indium tin oxide nanofiber. A method of making metal oxide nanofibers is also disclosed.

Methods for preparing composite non-woven fibers-in-fibers, otherwise referred to as composite polymeric fibers having an island-in-sea morphology, are described. The composite polymeric fibers may be prepared by a method that includes melt-blowing a blend of a first polymer and an immiscible second polymer to form the composite polymer fibers. The first polymer forms a matrix that surrounds the second polymer. Typically, the second polymer forms nanofibers within the matrix of the first polymer. The composite polymeric fiber may be treated with a solvent that selectively dissolves the matrix of the composite polymeric fiber and that does not dissolve the nanofibers of the composite polymeric fiber, and the nanofibers then may be collected for further treatment or use.

The apparatus has a first reservoir for containing the first component, and a second reservoir for containing the dispersion, second solution or liquid. The dispersion, second solution or liquid includes the second component. The apparatus also has a polycomponent spinnerette adapted to coextrude the first component and the second component to form the polycomponent fibre. The apparatus also includes a first conduit for connecting the first reservoir to the spinnerette, and a second conduit for connecting the second reservoir to the spinnerette.

Polyester feed yarn for drawtexturing, having an elongation at break of 30 to 150 percent, is composed of three different types of filaments. (A) 20 to 40 percent of the filaments consist of a polymer of ethylene terephthalate and 0 to 3 mole percent of modifying groups for imparting cationic dyeability. (B) 20 to 40 percent of the filaments consist of a copolymer of ethylene terephthalate and about 5 to 15 mole percent of other ester units. (C) 15 to 35 weight percent of the yarn consists of eccentric bicomponent filaments of the above two polymers. The bicomponent filaments have a smaller denier and lower elongation at break than the other filaments, so that the bicomponent filaments can be broken preferentially when the yarn is drawtextured to provide spun-like tactility. When broken, the bicomponent filaments helically crimp and become entangled in the yarn bundle with a slight, uniform protrusion of ends above the surface which provides good resistance to pilling in fabrics.

Different fluid polymers are continuously discharged into a limited space, at the same time, with passages for the polymers being moved relative to spinning orifices of a spinneret. A multiple layer flow is formed in which the different polymers alternate in the direction of flow. When the multiple layer flow is passed through the orifices of the spinneret plate, cooled and solidified or dried and coagulated, a fiber is obtained in which the different polymers are alternately arranged along the fiber. The interfaces between the different polymers are parabolic curved surfaces.

Composite filament having an elastic crimping property, comprised of at least two components disposed in an eccentric sheath-core relation along the longitudinal axis of the filament, in which one component is composed of a polyester consisting mainly of polyethylene terephthalate and another component or components comprise highly shrinkable polyamide having a shrinking percentage of 15-80 percent and the percent by weight of the core or cores in the filament is 5-50. It is preferable that the core component is composed of the polyester and the sheath component is composed of the polyamide. Furthermore, the eccentricity of the sheath-core relation is preferably at least 5. The core component may be constituted with a plurality number of cores.
