For example, this document describes fluid couplings that are convenient to couple/decouple and that provide strong resistance to inadvertent disconnection when subjected to rotation while pressurized. In some embodiments, the resistance to inadvertent disconnection is facilitated by a latch mechanism of the female coupling that includes a protrusion that becomes seated in a groove of a mated male coupling.

    摘要: A launch device for a vehicle transmission includes a housing, an impeller, a turbine; and first and second clutches. The first and second clutches include first and second pistons, respectively. The first and second pistons are sealingly engaged with one another. The first clutch releaseably engages the impeller with the housing and the second clutch releaseably engages the turbine with the first piston. In an example embodiment, the first clutch is disposed radially outside of the second clutch and at least a portion of the first piston is disposed axially between the housing and the second piston. In an example embodiment, the first clutch is engaged by a first pressure, and the second clutch is engaged by a second pressure greater than the first pressure.

    摘要: A novel and useful method and apparatus for generating power from pressure changes over time within a fluid. The apparatus comprises a housing (10), and a double-sided piston (12) subject to the forces brought about by the variations in pressure of the surrounding fluid and by a restoring force such as a spring (20) or other mechanism. The resulting motion of the piston is transferred to power a generator, or is used to directly perform work. The apparatus is particularly applicable to placement in the ocean or sea where the rise and fall of the tides create the variations of pressure that drive the piston within the housing. A rising tide presents a higher pressure against the face of the piston pushing it towards the back of the housing and opposing the restoring force mechanism. A falling tide presents a lower pressure against the face of the piston allowing the restoring force to move it towards the front of the housing. Energy is harvested from the movement of the piston in one or both directions either by connection to a turbine coupled to a generator or by a linkage attached to the piston that is connected to a mechanical load such as a generator, pump, etc.

    摘要: A portable, rotary vane vacuum pump with an automatic vacuum breaking arrangement that vents the pump to atmosphere whenever the drive motor ceases to rotate the pump. The arrangement prevents lubricating oil in any substantial amount from being undesirably drawn into the evacuated pump when the drive motor is shut off either intentionally or unintentionally. If the system being evacuated is also still connected to the pump, the arrangement will additionally vent it and greatly limit any amount of oil that may be undesirably sucked back into it. The pump further has a primary oil container that essentially holds all of the oil for the system. The primary container is preferably made of clear, rigid plastic and is also removable from the main body of the pump so it can be quickly and easily replaced with another container of fresh oil even while the pump is still operating.
