    摘要: A method and apparatus for converting radiation power, especially solar radiation, into mechanical power. A piston is provided that is movable in a cylinder accompanied by the formation of a variable-sized working chamber. During a compression stroke, the piston is used to press a working medium, accompanied by a reduction in the size of the working chamber, into a radiation absorber/heat exchanger that is disposed directly in the working chamber, receives radiation energy, and essentially completely accommodates the working medium when the working chamber is at a minimum. During a working stroke, the working medium, which is compressed by the reduction in size of the working chamber and which is heated up by absorbing thermal energy from the radiation absorber/heat exchanger, is used to move the piston, upon expansion of the working medium, into a position that enlarges the working chamber. At least a portion of the working medium is exchanged following the working stroke and prior to a subsequent compression stroke.

    摘要: The apparatus for collecting radiant energy and converting same to alternate energy form includes a housing having an interior space and a radiation transparent window allowing, for example, solar radiation to be received in the interior space of the housing. Means are provided for passing a stream of fluid past said window and for injecting radiation absorbent particles in said fluid stream. The particles absorb the radiation and because of their very large surface area, quickly release the heat to the surrounding fluid stream. The fluid stream particle mixture is heated until the particles vaporize. The fluid stream is then allowed to expand in, for example, a gas turbine to produce mechanical energy. In an aspect of the present invention properly sized particles need not be vaporized prior to the entrance of the fluid stream into the turbine, as the particles will not damage the turbine blades. In yet another aspect of the invention, conventional fuel injectors are provided to inject fuel into the fluid stream to maintain the proper temperature and pressure of the fluid stream should the source of radiant energy be interrupted. In yet another aspect of the invention, an apparatus is provided which includes means for providing a hot fluid stream having hot particles disbursed therein which can radiate energy, means for providing a cooler fluid stream having cooler particles disbursed therein, which particles can absorb radiant energy and means for passing the hot fluid stream adjacent the cooler fluid stream to warm the cooler fluid and cooler particles by the radiation from the hot fluid and hot particles.

    摘要: A multilayer solar collector structure wherein internal ducting to properly channel fluid flow of the collection medium is integrally provided within the internal layer design. First, second and third insulation layers are included with the first and third serving to sandwich the second therebetween. The second layer is shaped so that it defines an inner hollow core area between the first and third layers so that air from the building is drawn through an inlet which is in communication with that hollow inner core area. A blackened wire mesh adsorber is provided between the top of the third or uppermost layer and a transparent cover and that third layer includes an opening at one end in communication with the hollow core area thereunder and another opening at the opposite end in communication with an exit or exhaust opening. Thus, air can flow from the building into the collector, through the hollow core, the adsorber mesh and returned to the building.

    摘要: A solid matrix of microporous adsorbent is utilized to provide a barrier between two bodies of a gaseous mixture of which at least one constituent is a sorbable vapor. Appropriate application of heat at the opposing interfaces of the adsorbent barrier produces a partial pressure differential across the barrier. The adsorbent material is energized from a convenient heat source; for example, solar energy. The vapor pump of the invention may be used for environmental refrigeration and may be of the open or closed type. Other uses for the vapor pump are for producing a supply of pure water from low vapor content air or for drying air by removing the vapor content.
