Abstract: A pet watering fountain includes a bowl having a wall extending to a floor. The floor includes a lower area defining a sump with a sump floor. The sump floor has a height lower than the height of the surrounding portion of the floor. The housing divides the basin into a drinking basin and an interior basin. The drinking basin is accessible to an animal while the interior basin is located behind and underneath the housing and is not accessible to the animal. The pump has an inlet plate with inlet openings located near the bottom of the pump below the level of the bowl floor surrounding portion so that the bowl floor surrounding portion may be devoid of water yet the pump may still have enough water to keep it pumping and prevent it from overheating due to the water within the sump above the inlet openings.

Abstract: A fluid pump for pumping a fluid from an inlet toward an outlet comprises a pump body, a pump diaphragm, and a valve seat. The pump body has a first opening and a second opening. The pump diaphragm is attached to the pump body and forms a pump chamber between the pump body and the pump diaphragm. The pump chamber is fluidly connected to the inlet by the first opening and to the outlet by the second opening. The valve seat is disposed inside the pump chamber and around the second opening. The valve seat protrudes with an undeformed height from the second opening into the pump chamber in a direction toward the pump diaphragm. The valve seat has an elastic body and a gasket with a sealing surface. The pump diaphragm is deflectable and is adapted to open and close a fluidic pathway of the outlet by moving into and out of contact with the valve seat.

Abstract: A fluidic device comprises a first channel conduit, a valve apparatus, and an additional element adjacent to the first channel conduit. The first channel conduit transports fluid from a first fluid entrance to a fluid exit. In one embodiment, the additional element is a pump chamber that receives fluid from a second fluid entrance and pumps fluid into the first channel conduit in accordance with fluid pressure. Alternatively, the additional elements include a second channel conduit and a neck of the first channel conduit. The first channel conduit and the second channel conduit share a common wall. Fluid pressure in the first channel conduit controls a valve apparatus. The value apparatus controls a rate of fluid flow in the first channel conduit by deforming the common wall to change a cross-sectional area of the neck, which changes a rate of fluid flow in the second channel conduit.

Abstract: A microfluidic device with reduced risk of bubble formation at a capillary junction between two conduits is provided. The microfluidic device can include a supply reservoir, a first conduit and a second conduit. The first conduit is configured such that liquid flows by capillary effect from the supply reservoir into the first conduit. The second conduit is connected to the first conduit through an opening in a wall of the first conduit and is configured such that liquid flows from the first conduit to the second conduit by capillary effect. A width of the second conduit, along a direction of liquid flow in the first conduit, is greater than a depth of the second conduit and a depth of the second conduit is less than a depth of the first conduit.

Abstract: A method of driving an active matrix electro-wetting on dielectric (AM-EWOD) device comprises (i) setting a reference electrode to a first reference voltage; (ii) writing a set of data to array element electrodes of array elements of the device; and (iii) either (a) maintaining the voltages written to the array element electrodes until a time t0 or (b) re-writing the set of data N−1 times (where N≧2). The reference electrode is then set to a second reference voltage different from the first reference voltage, and features (i) to (iii) are repeated. When the data are first written, there is a delay between the time when the voltage on the reference electrode is transitioned and the time when a given array element is next written with data. Feature (iii) allows the time for which the correct data values are held to be increased relative to the time for which incorrect data values may possibly be held, so that the time for which an element may be in an incorrect state can be made insignificant in terms of its effect on unwantedly perturbing droplet operations.
