Abstract:
A reader for interacting with a credit-card-sized pocket personal computer is disclosed. The reader and pocket PC comprise a computing system. The system comprises storage, a processor, a GPS chip and an operating system. The reader includes at least one input device such as a keyboard and at least one output device such as a display. A user cannot interact with the pocket PC without the reader. The reader is a non-functioning 'shell' without the pocket PC, however, when they are connected the system becomes a fully functional personal computer. To log on, a user provides security information, for example, a password or biometrics, such as fingerprints. The credit card size and capabilities of the pocket PC allows a user to easily carry virtually their entire computer in a pocket for use anywhere there is a reader. In addition, the pocket PC provides security against unauthorized use, even if lost or stolen, since a password or fingerprints are required to access to the device.
Abstract:
Systems and methods provide two levels of authentication for a user on an IMS-IPTV system. A first level of authentication validates an ISIM card (set-top box) with the network using, e.g., an IMSI comparison. A second level of authentication validates the user through comparing user entered information with information stored on the ISIM card. Additionally, methods for populating security information onto the ISIM card to facilitate the second level of authentication are described.

An apparatus and method for decoding of encoded signals representing at least image information from a storage medium is claimed. A storage device is configured to receive the storage medium. A decoder is configured receive the compressed encrypted encoded signals from the storage medium, and send the signals to a decryptor. The decryptor is configured to decrypt the compressed encrypted encoded signals, and send the signals to a decompressor. The decompressor is configured to receive the compressed encoded signals from the decryptor and to decompress the compressed encoded signals to enable display of the image.

This invention relates to a method of creating and developing a mobile technology enabled television that would be able to store large quantities of information downloaded via a mobile network, be able to receive a television broadcasting signal via a mobile network and be able to inter-communicate with other data-networks for various communication purposes. The method of the invention requires the television to be build with specific hardware and software that would support various functionalities and capabilities. These functionalities and capabilities include, the ability to use the television as a telephone, as a virtual mail box, a mobile television, a terminal to access various services and products offered via the mobile telecommunications network, to download multi-media information from the various service providers on the mobile telecommunications network and broadcasting of various information to various users via the mobile telecommunications network. Since the television has a large storage medium with the ability to store large quantities of information, this creates and paves the way for the user to access a wider variety of products and service from the comfort of his mobile technology enabled television. The user would be able to download movies, music, e-magazines, newspapers, virtual and textual mail etc. in an instant from any subscriber on the mobile telecommunications network. In addition the mobile technology enabled television also paves the way for the launch of a multi-billion dollar independent mobile television industry.

Disclosed are a method and a system for realizing a Pay Per View (PPV) purchasing mechanism. The system includes: a broadcasting center for setting system information regarding each PPV broadcast program, for broadcasting the PPV broadcast programs and the system information to a broadcasting network, and for performing charging of a price and a management of a viewing right through provided PPV details information on each PPV broadcast program; and a broadcast viewing terminal for receiving PPV broadcast programs and system information provided through a broadcasting network, for purchasing or canceling the purchase of a prescribed PPV broadcast program at the available purchase time or at the available purchase cancellation time on the basis of PPV details information previously stored in the broadcast viewing terminal, and for delivering PPV details information updated according to a result of processing a broadcast viewing right to the broadcasting center.

Abstract:
To receive new services including audio or video content for presentation by a cable-compatible digital television or other digital audio/video receiver, a module may be connected to the HOST-POD interface of the digital television. The module has a receiver for receiving audio or video content in a first compression format, a transcoder for converting said audio or video content from the first compression format into a second, different compression format, and a controller for transmitting the audio or visual content in the second compression format to the digital television over a HOST-POD interface. By using such a module, front-end components of the digital television may be bypassed while back-end components may be utilized to decompress and present the content. The module may be a PC card or smart card for example.

The present invention aims at minimising the impact of an attack on the reloading of the credit into a security module connected to a Pay-TV decoder. The solution to this problem resides in a prepaid access control method to television products broadcasted in a data stream to a Pay-TV decoder linked to a security module having a credit, this method comprising the following steps: - receiving of a security message (ECM) comprising a temporary key (CW) allowing the decryption of at least a part of the data stream, - verifying access to said data on the basis of the rights contained in the security module, if the verification is positive, verifying of a counter a temporary keys sent to the decoder and determining if a limit has been reached, - transmitting the temporary key if the limit is not reached and updating the temporary key counter.

A broadcasting receiver and method for recording and reproducing a video signal in a digital recording medium are disclosed. A digital/analog broadcasting signal which is directly received via an antenna or a cable, an external video signal ( e.g., a HDMI signal, a DVI signal, an YPbPr signal, a RGB signal, or a CVBS signal) input via an external terminal and a video signal having a predetermined format ( e.g., 1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i, XGA, SVGA or VGA) can be recorded and a time-shift function may be performed.
