Abstract:
The present invention pertains to carpet and method of making it. In one aspect, the carpet includes (a) a primary backing which has a face and a back surface, (b) a plurality of fibers attached to the primary backing and extending from the face of the primary backing and exposed at the back surface of the primary backing, (c) an adhesive backing, (d) an optional secondary backing adjacent to the adhesive backing, (e) at least one homogeneously branched linear ethylene polymer. The method includes extrusion coating at least one homogeneously branched linear ethylene polymer onto the back surface of a primary backing to provide an adhesive backing. The method can include additional steps or procedures, either separately or in various combinations. Additional steps and procedures include preheating the primary backing prior the extrusion step, multilayer adhesive backings, washing or scouring the primary backing prior the extrusion step, and utilizing adhesive polymeric additives, high heat content fillers, blowing agents and/or implosion agents. The constructions and methods described herein are particularly suited for making carpet tile.

The preferred homogeneously branched ethylene polymer is a substantially linear ethylene polymer. The constructions and methods described herein are particularly suited for making tufted, broad-loom carpet having improved abrasion resistance.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to a carpet, a process for manufacturing a carpet and a method for recycling a carpet. The carpet of the present disclosure includes a primary backing (5) having tufts of synthetic carpet fibers (10) protruding from a top surface and optionally, a secondary backing (20) with an extruded sheet (15) of an isostatic polyolefin polymer between and integrally fused to a bottom surface of the primary backing (5) and an upper surface of the secondary backing (20). The process for manufacturing the recyclable carpet includes contacting the extruded sheet (15) with the primary backing (5) and, optionally, the secondary backing (20), at a temperature sufficiently high to integrally fuse the extruded sheet (15) to the respective backing. The method for recycling synthetic carpet of the type described includes manufacturing the carpet, collecting portions of the carpet, and melting the collected portions to make a feedstock.
Abstract:
The invention pertains to a method to produce a laminated carpet tile comprising providing a first polymer sheet having yarns fastened thereto, the first sheet having a first surface and a second surface, the yarns extending from the first surface, providing a second polymer sheet, laminating the second polymer sheet to the second surface of the first sheet at a temperature above the glass transition temperature of the first and/or second polymer sheet, cooling the laminated product to room temperature, and optionally cutting the laminated product into multiple sub-products,wherein the step of cooling the laminated product to room temperature includes cooling the laminated product to a temperature below the glass transition temperature of the first and/or second sheet while the laminated product is forced to take a curved constitution wherein the second sheet is positioned at the inner side of the curve.
Abstract:
Provided are carpets and textile layers comprising a plurality of fibers and layer comprising a polymer blend for locking the plurality of fibers, and methods for making them.
Abstract:
This invention relates to tufted floorcovering articles, including carpet tiles and broadloom carpet, made from polyester and comprising a polyester pile yarn (110), a polyester primary backing (120), at least one polyester adhesive layer (130) and a polyester secondary backing (140). The polyester carpet tiles meet commercial performance specifications and are fully end-of-life recyclable.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to a method for manufacturing a laminated textile product comprising providing a first intermediate product comprising a primary backing having a front surface and a back surface, and yarns stitched into the primary backing, the yarns extending from the front surface of the backing material, feeding the intermediate product along a body having a heated surface, the back surface being pressed against the said heated surface, to at least partly melt the yarns present in the intermediate product to bond the yarns to the backing, wherein the part of the back surface that is pressed against the heated surface has a relative speed with respect to the heated surface, so as to provide a second intermediate product having a calendered back surface, providing a dimensionally stable carrier sheet or secondary backing, and connecting the second intermediate product to the carrier sheet by providing a hot melt adhesive between the calendered surface and the sheet, and pressing the sheet to the second intermediate product to form the textile product.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an artificial lawn at least consisting of a substrate through which one or more synthetic fibres are attached, wherein part of said one or more synthetic fibres projects from the substrate, forming a base on which the artificial lawn can be played, and another part of said one or more synthetic fibres faces away from the substrate. It is an object of the present invention to provide an artificial lawn wherein the artificial lawn, which is made up of various components, can be recycled, wherein in particular the chemical origin of the individual components is substantially identical.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for bonding textile material, which comprises consolidated fibres in the form of fibre bundles, filaments or the like, wherein a molten thermoplastic hotmelt adhesive is applied to one side of the textile material. The invention envisages the use of a hotmelt adhesive which, on account of its low viscosity, penetrates into the consolidated fibres or the fibre bundles at the intended processing temperature by capillary action.
