    摘要: A tunneling tool for creating a pathway for implanting a therapy delivery element in a living body. The tunneling tool includes a malleable elongated shaft having a distal end. A sheath having a lumen is slidably positioned over a portion of the shaft. A primary handle secured to proximal end of the shaft permits a user to advance and manipulate the shaft and the sheath in the living body. A secondary handle with an opening is slidably positioned on the shaft between the primary handle and the sheath. The opening has a diameter less than an outside diameter of a proximal end of the sheath. A locking mechanism releasably engages the secondary handle to the primary handle. The sheath is retained in a desired location within the living body by securing the secondary handle relative to the living body as the primary handle is used to remove the shaft from the sheath.

    摘要: A motor-driven surgical instrument having a control assembly for controlling a switch of the instrument. The surgical instrument may comprise a motor control circuit, a drive member, and a slider. The drive member comprises a first shoulder at a first position and a second shoulder at a second position. A first portion of the slider interfaces the drive member such that the slider is moveable in a direction of movement of the drive member when either the first shoulder or the second shoulder of the drive member engages the first portion of the slider. A second portion of the slider actuates a switch of the motor control circuit when the drive member moves the slider to a first position relative to the first switch. In various embodiments, the switches of the control circuit are not embodied as a part of an IC.

    摘要: End effectors with redundant closing mechanisms, and related tools and methods are disclosed. The disclosed end effectors may be particularly beneficial when used for minimally invasive surgery. An example surgical tool comprises an elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, a tool body disposed at the distal end of the shaft, a jaw movable relative to the tool body between a clamped configuration and an open configuration, a first actuation mechanism coupled with the jaw and operable to vary the position of the jaw relative to the tool body between the clamped configuration and the open configuration, and a second actuation mechanism coupled with the jaw. The second actuation mechanism has a first configuration where the jaw is held in the clamped configuration and a second configuration where the position of the jaw relative to the tool body is unconstrained by the second actuation mechanism.

    摘要: A subcutaneous fasciotomy is performed to relieve pressure due to compartment syndrome. A small incision is made in a patient's skin. A surgical instrument is advanced through the entry location, and moved between the skin and the fascia of the patient to a remote location, with a cutter of the instrument in a stowed configuration. After reaching the remote location, the cutter is deployed to pierce an initial opening in the fascia at the remote location. The fascia is maintained adjacent a blade of the cutter via a notch shape that traps the fascia. The instrument is then withdrawn back toward the entry location with the blade incising the fascia to relieve pressure in the muscle compartment. The surgical instrument is then removed through the entry incision.

    摘要: Apparatuses, systems, and methods involve using reduced pressure to position a portion of tissue in a cutting head and cutting the tissue to debride a tissue site. A cutting head includes a debridement conduit having a distal end and a proximal end. A portion of the debridement conduit adjacent to the distal end comprises a tissue treatment area. The cutting head also includes an opening to the tissue treatment area formed at the distal end of the debridement conduit. The tissue treatment area is adapted to receive the portion of tissue through the opening under reduced pressure. The cutting head also includes a selectively moveable cutting member associated with the debridement conduit at the tissue treatment area. The cutting member is for cutting the portion of tissue from the tissue site while the portion of tissue resides in the debridement conduit. Other methods, systems, and apparatuses are disclosed.
