Embodiments of the invention relate to a method and system for magnetic self-assembly (MSA) of one or more parts to another part. Assembly occurs when the parts having magnet patterns bond to one another. Such bonding can result in energy minima. The magnetic forces and torques— controlled by the size, shape, material, and magnetization direction of the magnetic patterns cause the components to rotate and align. Specific embodiments of MSA can offer self-assembly features such as angular orientation, where assembly is restricted to one physical orientation; inter-part bonding allowing assembly of free-floating components to one another; assembly of free-floating components to a substrate; and bonding specificity, where assembly is restricted to one type of component when multiple components may be present.

A method for making a cutter construction comprising a cutter body joined to a carrier body, the method including providing the cutter body with a cutter coat structure, at least one of the carrier body and the cutter coat structure comprising a first material and the other comprising a second material, the first material having a lower melting point than the second material and being capable of wetting it, taking it into solution and reacting with it to produce a solid phase; heating the carrier body to above the melting point of the first material and contacting the cutter coat structure of the cutter body with the carrier body for a sufficient period for the first material to melt and for sufficient solid phase to form between the cutter body and the carrier body and join the cutter body to the carrier body; the heat being applied to the first and second materials via the carrier body.

L'invention concerne une nouvelle interface entre la gaine (2) et l'empilement de pastilles (5) dans un crayon de combustible nucléaire. Selon l'invention, un joint d'interface en matériau transparent aux neutrons, sous la forme d'une structure (3) de conductivité thermique élevée et à porosité ouverte, adapté pour se déformer par compression selon son épaisseur, est inséré entre la gaine et la colonne de pastilles de combustible sur au moins la hauteur de cette dernière. L'invention concerne aussi des procédés de fabrication associés.

On trempe le produit long à revêtir (un fil d'acier en défilement notamment) dans un bain d'alliage de zinc et, à sa sortie du bain, on refroidit le produit revêtu, caractérisé en ce que ledit bain d'alliage de zinc comprend, en pourcentages pondéraux, de 4 à 8 % d'aluminium et de 0,2 à 0,7 % de magnésium, et en ce que ledit refroidissement est contrôlé pour donner audit revêtement métallique une microstructure homogène dotée d'une portion de phase β supérieure à 25% environ en volume. Le produit revêtu obtenu présente une bonne résistance à la corrosion, en milieu salin en particulier, en même temps qu'une bonne qualité métallurgique et des propriétés d'usage préservées, et la mise en œuvre de son procédé d'obtention ne présente aucune difficultés particulières par rapport aux techniques connues de revêtement au trempé.

In an embodiment, the subject power generation system can provide power to embedded sensors in gas turbines or other high temperature rotating systems. A magnetic array can be disposed on a stationary portion of the gas turbine and a coil can be disposed on a rotating portion of the gas turbine to provide power to a sensor disposed on the rotating portion.

The invention relates to a method for joining ceramic composite parts comprising at least one ceramic material and at least one superhard material to at least one other part, the method comprising treatment of a join surface or surfaces of the ceramic composite part; and disposition onto the treated surface or surfaces, or portions thereof, of a material capable of bonding to the ceramic composite part as well as to the at least one other part upon the application of sufficient heat. The invention extends to articles comprising a ceramic composite part comprising ceramic material and at least one superhard material, bonded to at least one other part, the article including at least one layer selected from an attachment layer, a brazeable layer, and an oxidation resistant (braze compatible) layer or combinations thereof included at an interface between the ceramic composite part and the other part.

The invention relates to a method for producing a cellular structure (such as a honeycomb structure) including cells separated by walls, wherein the method comprises the following steps: making a holding device including rods reproducing the shape of the cells, the rods being separated by grooves reproducing the shape of the walls; placing continuous fibres into the grooves so as to form the walls, each fibre being placed into a plurality of consecutive, adjacent grooves; forming a matrix around the fibres in order to bind the fibres together. The invention also relates to the uses of the structure thus obtained as a fuel sheath or a sound absorber.

L' invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'une structure alvéolaire (par exemple une structure en nid d'abeilles) comprenant des alvéoles séparées par des parois, le procédé comprenant les étapes suivantes : - réalisation d'un dispositif de maintien comprenant des tiges reproduisant la forme des alvéoles, les tiges étant séparées par des gorges reproduisant la forme des parois, - placement de fibres continues dans les gorges pour constituer les parois, chaque fibre étant placée dans plusieurs gorges successives adjacentes, - formation d'une matrice autour des fibres de manière à lier les fibres entre elles. L' invention concerne également des utilisations de la structure ainsi obtenue comme gaine de combustible ou comme absorbeur de sons.
