Abstract:
The present invention relates to a rear suspension apparatus for a vehicle. The rear suspension apparatus for a vehicle of the present invention comprises: trailing arms formed of steel and disposed on both sides of a vehicle frame; a torsion beam formed of steel and disposed in the direction perpendicular to the frame such that both end portions are oriented toward the trailing arms on both sides; and an intermediate connecting member formed of steel and interposed between the trailing arms and the torsion beam such that both end portions are each welded and coupled to the trailing arms and the torsion beam.
Abstract:
A humanoid robot includes a torso, a pair of arms, two hands, a neck, and a head. The torso extends along a primary axis and presents a pair of shoulders. The pair of arms movably extend from a respective one of the pair of shoulders. Each of the arms has a plurality of arm joints. The neck movably extends from the torso along the primary axis. The neck has at least one neck joint. The head movably extends from the neck along the primary axis. The head has at least one head joint. The shoulders are canted toward one another at a shrug angle that is defined between each of the shoulders such that a workspace is defined between the shoulders.
Abstract:
Parasitic loads on a vehicular battery are evaluated based on an estimated reduction in the state of charge of the battery over the course of an engine-off state.
Abstract:
The performance and durability of static and dynamic seals for hydrogen storage and supply systems has been improved by utilizing a spring-energized and plastic coated radial seal in combination with at least a mating surface that has been treated by one of a variety of procedures. These procedures include applying to the mating surface a low-friction, hard, and hydrogen impervious coating, chemically polishing the mating surface, and electrochemically polishing the mating surface. Each of these procedures significantly reduces, on a microscopic scale, the surface roughness of the mating surface. The seal can thus form a tighter and more gas-tight seal with the smoother mating surface so as to decrease the loss of hydrogen gas across the seal. The smoother mating surface can also improve seal life by reducing seal surface wear.
Abstract:
A system and method for notifying a vehicle user that a particular item that is part of a predetermined group of items is missing when the user enters the vehicle. Items that a vehicle user may bring into the vehicle that may be part of the group may be in wireless communications with the vehicle by any suitable communications protocol, such as Bluetooth protocol or an RFID tag. The vehicle will identify whether there is a known group of items entering the vehicle, and if so, determine whether an item from that group of items is missing. If a missing item is detected, the vehicle can then notify the user about the missing item. Additionally, the vehicle can also tell the vehicle user where the missing item is located if the missing item is part of an ad-hoc internet group.
Abstract:
A method for controlling a powertrain includes monitoring engagement status of said selectable one-way clutch, monitoring an upshift command, monitoring a speed of an engine to torque converter shaft, monitoring a speed of a torque converter to transmission shaft, when the monitoring detects engagement of the selectable one-way clutch and the upshift command, then determining a relative rotational speed of the torque converter based upon the speed of said engine to torque converter shaft and the speed of said torque converter to transmission shaft. A locked selectable one-way clutch condition is diagnosed based upon the relative rotational speed. A torque increase is commanded from the engine based upon the locked selectable one-way clutch condition. And disengagement of the selectable one-way clutch is commanded.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a cover system can comprise: a cover and an active material component in operable communication with the cover. The active material component can comprise an active material that enables the deployment and retraction of the cover.
Abstract:
A system and method for predicting the occurrence of an event in a vehicle. The method includes monitoring a data stream including multi-dimensional tokens having information about one or more vehicle operating parameters. Further, the method includes the identification of a pattern of values of the one or more operating parameters in the data stream by mining the data stream using a temporal data miner, and predicting the occurrence of the event based on the correlation between the detected pattern and a pre-recorded pattern.
Abstract:
A steering system disengages a wheel assembly of a vehicle in response to an event while driving. The steering system includes a suspension knuckle, a tie rod, and a puller. The puller includes a connector that removably engages the suspension knuckle and the tie rod to interconnect the suspension knuckle and the tie rod. The puller is operable to move the connector to disconnect the connector from at least one of the suspension knuckle and the tie rod in response to the event. The vehicle is operated along a longitudinal axis while driving and a moment of the vehicle about the longitudinal axis is sensed. If the moment exceeds the threshold, the puller is energized to disconnect the suspension knuckle from the tie rod.
Abstract:
A self-healing and/or self-cleaning tire comprising at least one active material element configured when undergoing an actuation cycle to repair a structural anomaly, such as a crack or puncture, and/or remove a surface anomaly, such as foreign substances or objects adhered to or lodged in the tire.
