There is disclosed a electric rail carriage (10), such as a train carriage, arranged to be powered by at least one power module (22) which is arranged to generate electric power. The carriage comprises a main chassis (12); and at least one power module bay (26) located underneath the main chassis (12) and within which a power module (22) can be removably located and secured such that the power module (22) is supported underneath the main chassis (12). There is also disclosed a power module (22) for an electric rail carriage (100) which is arranged to be removably located and secured within a power module bay (22), and a method of installing a power module (22) into a power module bay (26).

Chariot (1) motorisé apte à se déplacer en translation selon un axe longitudinal (X) le long d'un rail horizontal, ledit chariot (1) comportant au moins une roue (4), notamment du type roue à friction, entraînée en rotation par un moteur (5) électrique et montée pivotante selon un axe transversal (Y) sur un support (3) qui porte ledit moteur (5), ledit chariot (1) comportant un châssis (2) intégrant des moyens de guidage (23, 24) montés à coulissement sur le châssis (2) selon un axe vertical (Z) orthogonal aux axes longitudinal (X) et transversal (Y) et coopérant avec des moyens de contrainte élastique (25, 26) conformés pour déplacer les moyens de guidage (23, 24) en direction du rail, où le support (3) est en appui glissant sur lesdits moyens de guidage (23, 24) selon les axes longitudinal (X) et vertical (Z), cet appui glissant étant conformé pour convertir un déplacement du support (3) selon l'axe longitudinal (X) en un déplacement concomitant du support (3) selon l'axe vertical (Z) en direction du rail. Abstract:
Designs for a battery-powered, all-electric locomotive and related locomotive and train configurations are disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, a locomotive may be driven by a plurality of traction motors powered exclusively by a battery assembly which preferably comprises rechargeable batteries or other energy storage means. The locomotive carries no internal combustion engine on board and receives no power during operation from any power source external to the locomotive. A battery management system monitors and equalizes the batteries to maintain a desired state of charge (SOC) and depth of discharge (DOD) for each battery. A brake system may be configured to prioritize a regenerative braking mechanism over an air braking mechanism so that substantial brake energy can be recovered to recharge the battery assembly. Many locomotive or train configurations involving battery-powered or battery-toting locomotive(s) may be implemented. In one embodiment, a battery-toting locomotive is directly coupled with and positioned between two diesel-electric locomotives, wherein the batteries recover energy from regenerative braking and/or supply power to drive traction motors.

A monorail vehicle includes a chassis supporting a vehicle body, that includes a passenger floor and at least one side wall, and an electrical motor supported by the chassis. A drive wheel is coupled to a rotor of the electric motor with a rotation axis of the drive wheel substantially coaxial with an axis of the rotor. Portions of the drive wheel and the electric motor are positioned on both sides of an imaginary plane extension of the passenger floor.
